TITLE: Riverbend Safety and Security Director

SUPERVISOR: Riverbend Christian School Director and Riverbend Church Facilities Director

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Exempt (Salaried)

LOCATION: 4214 N Capital of Texas HWY, Austin TX 78746

OVERVIEW:

Riverbend Church is seeking a Christ-centered Director of Safety and Security who is called to be part of a unique team. The role develops and directs security and loss prevention strategies and services, and implements safety programs that protect employees, school children, church members, physical and financial assets and critical / sensitive information.

Specifically, the incumbent will ensure a safe and secure environment for the weekend services, staff, children and students, volunteers and guests as well as property assets.

The role requires overseeing development and implementation of security and safety policies and practices, ensures compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations, develops volunteers, provides training, and manages an annual budget.

This is carried out on the campus of Riverbend Church in Austin (which includes the Riverbend Christian School, Riverbend Remembrance Gardens, and Riverbend Center for the Arts), and may include any activities / locations where Riverbend has a presence.

The position is an Exempt Full-time position and reports to the Executive Operations Pastor.

The role will be split as follows: 75% at Riverbend Christian School, and 25% at Riverbend Church (and affiliates).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provide direction to leadership, the school, and the campus teams on various security and safety plans, issues, and incidents to provide a secure environment.
  • Provide pastoral staff protection and coordinates the movement and safety of the lead pastor, his family, guest speakers, and others as needed at church sponsored services and or events.
  • Maintain and expand fully functioning security and safety volunteer teams.
  • Work with various church ministry teams to develop and implement security and safety procedures to minimize inherent risks.
  • Develop and document security and safety policies and procedures (e.g., weather, fire, active shooter, firearms, bomb, kidnaping, etc.).
  • Develop, implement and monitor current and future electronic surveillance systems at all campuses.
  • Participate in annual budget preparation to ensure adequate funds for the operation of the security and safety programs.
  • Produce and maintain purchase orders for security and safety equipment for the campus and process all payment requests.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments of premises for burglary, robbery, theft, fire and severe weather.
  • Plan and provide for protective services at various church sponsored events both on and off campus.
  • Establish and maintain relationships and serve as the point of contact with local law enforcement, private security firms, fire and EMS offices (services) to prevent or investigate incidents for protective services at various church sponsored services and events both on and off campus.
  • Help conduct interviews and background checks in compliance with church policies for Riverbend Church and school employees and volunteers; and assist with the interviewing and vetting of all volunteers in the guest service positions (security, ushers, greeters, parking, etc.).
  • Coordinate training for ushers, greeters, parking teams, etc. and other “front-line” church teams.
  • Manage all aspects of the day-to-day security of Riverbend Christian School
  • Approve, issue and maintain records of facility access keycards, keys and access codes
  • Maintain current knowledge of church related violence in the United States
  • Monitor weather during services and events for potential threats from nature
  • Conduct investigations of accidents or incidents on church properties
  • Promote employee safe security practices at work
  • Develop and maintain church volunteer medical team contacts that will address any medical issues that arise
  • Develop building exit plans for fire, active shooter, weather related, etc. responses
  • Coordinate First Responder staffing for services and events
  • Provide high-level coordination for sharing of best security practices, allocating resources, directing team initiatives, all while keeping an eye towards cost savings measures.
  • Provide input into campus traffic flow and safety
  • Skilled in conflict resolution / de-escalation techniques and problem solving with troubled individuals.
  • Must be available to work varied shifts and some holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Criminal Justice or related field from four-year college or university preferred; or two years of related training; or equivalent combination of education and training.

Minimum of five years of Law Enforcement experience (5-10 years preferred).

Certification in the Texas Department of Public Safety Guardian Program or ability to obtain certification within first 6 months of employment.

First aid / CPR certified

10+ years of related experience in total. Related experience includes law enforcement or public safety experience, investigative and supervisory experience, monitoring (surveillance) systems, working knowledge of latest security protocols, proficiency in control techniques for hostile persons and ability to recognize and react to hostile / hazardous events and persons.
