JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing all Sentido Health Nursing department employees for Colorado, manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the nursing department. The DON will lead and implement goals for all employees in the Nursing department and ensure compliance with all patient care procedures, safety protocols, and company policies. DON will also serve in the capacity of state of Colorado Administrator, Supervising Nurse, Safety Coordinator and Disaster Preparedness for agency nursing license. This position is eligible for relocation assistance if applicable.

Essential Functions

  • Lead all nursing staff and assist with any provide assistance as needed
  • Oversee all operations of the Nursing Department to ensure the best healthcare for all Sentido Health patients
  • Involved in interviewing, evaluating, and hiring of all potential candidates that would fall under the Nursing Department.
  • Able to communicate all policies and procedures to their department ensuring that the company is and remains in compliance with all federal, state and local laws, regulations, and rules.
  • Evaluates work performance of all nursing department personnel to determine any wage increases and allow for advisement on future work performance.
  • Communicates well with upper management, employees, patients, and patients' families in face-to-face aspects during home visits, hospital visits, over the phone, and video calls.
  • Ensures all nurses are providing exceptional and compassionate care to all patients and patients families while staying within all federal, state, and agency guidelines.
  • Collaborates with other departments of Sentido Health to ensure the nursing department is always in accordance with company guidelines and patient care is top priority.
  • Establish goals for the employees of the Colorado nursing department to constantly improve on patient care.
  • Complies with all OSHA regulations and other local, state, and federal government regulations.
  • Establishes a training system for all future nursing department employees to ensure all patients and employees are safe.
  • Ensures agency supervision for all clinical staff to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal rules, regulations, licensing and contractual requirements of agency licensing.

Required Skills

  1. Experience with managing and leading a department of nurses.
  2. Knowledge of appropriate and compassionate patient care.
  3. Licensed by the Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse with practice rights for state.
  4. Knowledge of home health care guidelines/licensing regulations.
  5. Knowledge and management of clinical practice with pediatric and or adult patients and families.
  6. Understanding of all legal compliances.
  7. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  8. Maintain professionalism when on the phone and through email.
  9. Ability to self-manage and work in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Maintains a positive and compassionate attitude.

Competencies

  1. Understanding of documenting in KanTime or current EMR and other systems while managing the employees who use it.
  2. Effective communication with patients, families, Case Managers, DON, ADON and Physicians to be able to manage all nurses and or caregivers who must communicate with these parties.
  3. Maintains clean vehicle and up to date insurance and registration while ensuring all salaried staff/nurses who drive for work follow the same.
  4. Maintains presentable appearance, properly follows PPE Guidelines while managing the nurses in the field to follow these same guidelines.
  5. Medication Administration via the following routes: PO, GB, GJ, Rectal, IM, IV, SQ, Nasal, Optic, Otic, and inhaler while ensuring all nurses or caregivers (as appropriate) in the department are competent with these medication administration routes.
  6. Knowledge and understanding of wound care to be able to manage and ensure clinical staff/caregivers are competent in wound care.
  7. Competent in GB/GJ Care/Maintenance, Delivery of medications and feeding via GB/GJ, feeding pump use to manage and ensure all agency clinical staff are competent in this as well.
  8. Competent in Tracheostomy care/maintenance, Suctioning: Oral, Nasal, and Tracheostomy, Ventilator use, HHN administration, Oxygen Administration, Pulse Oximeter Use to be able to manage and ensure all nurses are also competent in this as well.
  9. Urinary Catheterization insertion and removal while managing and ensuring all nurses are competent in urinary catheterization.
  10. Knowledge and understanding of Universal Precautions, Safety Measures, Seizure Precautions while ensuring all clinical employees are competent as well.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5

p.m. and as needed weekends. On call required.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree or Diploma Program in Nursing Required.
  • BSN or Masters Preferred
  • RN license by the Board of Nursing with ability to practice in Colorado
  • Home Health Strongly Preferred
  • Pediatrics Experience Strongly Preferred
