Director of Nursing Operations opportunity at St. David's HealthCare Overview The Director of Nursing Operations has overall accountability for staffing, bed control, nursing productivity, patient throughput, Nurse Supervisors, float pool, direct admit, ISS, OP Heart Center, Diabetes Education, and other areas as determined by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The role coordinates clinical actions, outcomes, budget planning, and supervision of practice and administrative issues. Primary responsibility includes special program assignments by the CNO and serving as a resource across the organization to identify and streamline nursing efficiencies. The position requires 24/7 readiness and active liaison with department leadership. Responsibilities Coordinate and prioritize plans through the CNO to align organizational objectives. Chair the Nurse Staffing Council and collect staffing indicators and quarterly reports. Participate as a member of the Inpatient and Outpatient Satisfaction Team. Ensure 24-hour operation of staffing and bed control; serve as Administrator on call as assigned. Approve all agency/supplemental staff and bonuses 24 hours a day and supervise supervisory staff in initiating supplemental staffing per policy. Prepare annual capital, revenue, and expense budgets; manage departmental financials to budget projections. Collect sitter data and reports daily for accounting and reporting. Serve as Facility Administrator for the AAS Scheduler and support department Directors as needed. Monitor daily operating reports to ensure adherence to budgets and maintain productive benchmarks; provide variance information to the CNO. Assist Nursing Directors in developing and updating department Facility Position Controls and act as a resource for Department Directors when needed. Act as liaison for the CNO when immediate contact is unavailable; participate in department/staff unit meetings to improve visibility and communication. Provide regular updates to the CNO and lead in coordinating multiple Directors and staff to maximize outcomes and improve patient care. Identify trends and issues requiring follow-up and resolution.
Qualifications Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Registered Nurse must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelors Degree in Nursing required Masters Degree preferred 5+ years of experience in an acute care hospital Director level experience with knowledge of PI (Performance Improvement) theory Current with JCAHO/Medicare/regulatory agency requirements and Texas State Board rules for nursing practice
