About NABIP
The National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals (NABIP) is the voice of more than 100,000 licensed health insurance agents, brokers, consultants, and employee benefits professionals across the United States. Through over 150 chapters, NABIP promotes a consumer-first, competitive, and transparent healthcare marketplace.

Our advocacy centers on preserving access to ethical, affordable, and innovative health insurance offerings—including employer-sponsored plans, the ACA Marketplace, Medicare Advantage, and consumer-directed health options.
Position Summary
NABIP is seeking a strategic, policy-focused Director of Government Affairs to lead its Republican-facing federal advocacy work. This individual will help craft and execute NABIP’s federal government relations strategy, with a particular emphasis on engaging conservative policymakers and advancing pro-market health policy reforms.
This is a highly visible role with frequent engagement on Capitol Hill, close coordination with NABIP’s leadership and grassroots network, and opportunities to shape national conversations on issues impacting brokers, benefit advisors, and working Americans.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead NABIP’s Republican outreach and strategy in Congress, focusing on legislation affecting health insurance brokers, the ACA Marketplace, employer-sponsored plans, and Medicare Advantage and Part D.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Republican congressional offices, especially committee staff from Ways & Means, Energy & Commerce, Education & Workforce, HELP, and Senate Finance.
- Draft high-impact advocacy content, including testimony, comment letters, talking points, coalition statements, and legislative briefings tailored to conservative audiences.
- Represent NABIP at coalition meetings, briefings, roundtables, and federal agency discussions.
- Track and analyze federal legislation and regulations with a lens toward free-market and small-business impacts.
- Collaborate across departments and with NABIP state chapters to support coordinated grassroots campaigns and national fly-ins (e.g., Capitol Conference).
- Provide real-time political and legislative intelligence to the SVP of Government Affairs and other internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to PAC strategy and engagement efforts with Republican policymakers.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7–12 years of experience in federal government affairs, health policy, or political strategy roles.
- Significant experience as a Republican congressional staffer, trade association advocate, or policy advisor with a focus on healthcare, tax, or small business issues.
- A proven track record of legislative wins or strategic influence in a partisan or bipartisan context.
- Strong working knowledge of the ACA, ERISA, Medicare, HSA/FSA rules, and employer-sponsored benefits.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex policy for diverse stakeholders.
- Comfortable managing multiple issues in a fast-paced, policy-forward environment.
- A team player who can operate independently while collaborating with a bipartisan government affairs team.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $120,000–$130,000, commensurate with experience
- Comprehensive benefits package including:
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with employer matching
- Generous paid leave and holiday schedule
- Hybrid work schedule (4 days in-office)
- Paid travel to policy and chapter events
- Professional development support, including participation in national coalitions and conferences
- Supportive, mission-driven culture with room for career growth and visibility
