Job Summary:
The Director of Government and Community Affairs is responsible for managing the University’s work in cultivating and sustaining relationships with elected and non-profit leaders, business and community groups and advocating for legislative and government support to advance the University’s mission.This position will be a vital member of the Government Affairs, Community Relations & Strategic Initiatives team and will coordinate and help execute the University’s strategy under the leadership of the Senior Vice President for this area. The Director will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with government officials and their staff at local, state, and federal levels to advance FDU’s priorities. With key opportunities on the horizon, the Director will be central in positioning the University to succeed in an evolving policy landscape. This position will report directly to the Senior Vice President for Government Affairs, Community Relations & Strategic Initiatives. Required Qualifications: 1. A Bachelor’s degree required in political science, higher education administration, communications, or related field.2. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required in government affairs, legislative relations, policy development, or a related field and demonstrated skill working effectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.3. Deep knowledge of government processes at local, state, and federal levels.4. Strong results-orientation, with proven commitment to working with integrity and a high degree of accountability.5. Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and advocacy skills.6. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with government officials and agencies.7. Collaborative mindset with the capacity to work effectively within a team and across diverse stakeholder groups.8. Be willing to travel to both FDU campuses and occasionally offsite to events.9. Alignment with FDUs values and University mission.10. Commitment to building connections across both campuses to support the execution of a successful government relations strategy.11.
