Position Summary
NABIP is seeking a strategic, policy-focused
Director of Government Affairs
to lead its Republican-facing federal advocacy work. This individual will help craft and execute NABIP’s federal government relations strategy, with a particular emphasis on engaging conservative policymakers and advancing pro-market health policy reforms.
This is a highly visible role with frequent engagement on Capitol Hill, close coordination with NABIP’s leadership and grassroots network, and opportunities to shape national conversations on issues impacting brokers, benefit advisors, and working Americans.
Key Responsibilities
Lead NABIP’s Republican outreach and strategy
in Congress, focusing on legislation affecting health insurance brokers, the ACA Marketplace, employer-sponsored plans, and Medicare Advantage and Part D.
Build and maintain strong relationships with Republican congressional offices, especially committee staff from Ways & Means, Energy & Commerce, Education & Workforce, HELP, and Senate Finance.
Draft high-impact advocacy content, including testimony, comment letters, talking points, coalition statements, and legislative briefings tailored to conservative audiences.
Represent NABIP at coalition meetings, briefings, roundtables, and federal agency discussions.
Track and analyze federal legislation and regulations with a lens toward free-market and small-business impacts.
Collaborate across departments and with NABIP state chapters to support coordinated grassroots campaigns and national fly-ins (e.g., Capitol Conference).
Provide real-time political and legislative intelligence to the SVP of Government Affairs and other internal stakeholders.
Contribute to PAC strategy and engagement efforts with Republican policymakers.
Preferred Qualifications
7–12 years
of experience in federal government affairs, health policy, or political strategy roles.
Significant experience as a Republican congressional staffer, trade association advocate, or policy advisor with a focus on healthcare, tax, or small business issues.
A proven track record of legislative wins or strategic influence in a partisan or bipartisan context.
Strong working knowledge of the ACA, ERISA, Medicare, HSA/FSA rules, and employer-sponsored benefits.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex policy for diverse stakeholders.
Comfortable managing multiple issues in a fast-paced, policy-forward environment.
A team player who can operate independently while collaborating with a bipartisan government affairs team.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range:
$120,000–$130,000, commensurate with experience
