JOB OBJECTIVE
Assists in the supervision and management of the transportation department with specific emphasis on overall student discipline, drivers, monitors, routes, safety, training, and special needs students. Assist the transportation director in all functions of student transportation and management of the transportation department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee the following transportation areas: Oversees the special needs bus routes, dispatcher, drivers and monitors Supervises and approves special needs bus route development Interviews and recommends employment for special needs transportation personnel Supervise and manage the certification process, training and retraining of all certified drivers Oversee the implementation and monitoring of all safety procedures involved in student transportation Assists the Transportation Director in managing the day-to-day operational aspects of the transportation department Supervises and evaluates assigned transportation personnel according to district policies and negotiated agreement Represents the district transportation department as directed
Oversees student discipline: Establishes, implements and enforces guidelines for proper student conduct and discipline related to pupil transportation Assists in training and development of student discipline and management relative to pupil transportation Fills in for the Transportation Director as directed Communicates effectively with parents, administration, and constituents Oversees athletic and field trip transportation Supervises and reviews bus stop and routing safety
Length of Contract: Two hundred forty (240) contract days.
EVALUATION
The performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Transportation in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies and state law.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education: Master's Degree in Education with Administrative Certification Previous Experience: Administrative &/or Transportation experience preferred Ability to work cooperatively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, and follow state and district guidelines Strong communication, leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OK Administration Certification CDL license KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Knowledge: Federal and state regulations pertaining to student transportation. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public. Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so. Ability to maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
