Strategic Account Director

Strategic Account Director is responsible for leading a team and a portfolio of clients, focusing particularly on the growth and retention of both client revenue and team members. As this is a leadership role, a Strategic Account Director also has a responsibility to input into the direction of the agency, sharing and leading initiatives that will benefit the agency as a whole, not just the team that they directly manage.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

The following is a non-exhaustive list of accountabilities and responsibilities of a Strategic Account Director:

  • Lead the cross-channel strategy and implementation planning for our largest (often international) clients.
  • Own the production of insights decks for use across Sales, Marketing and Account Management.
  • Own the production of pitch decks for new business opportunities.
  • Proactively manage the delivery of work by mid and junior level members to maximize output.
  • Motivate and manage a team, develop their capability and support career development.
  • Focus on the growth and retention of revenue and proactively address any revenue opportunities and risks.
  • Ensure commercial viability of all clients within your client portfolio, taking the necessary action to address those that aren't viable.
  • Own senior client stakeholder relationships, beyond day-to-day contacts.
  • Directly input into the direction of the agency by sharing and leading on initiatives that will benefit the agency as a whole.
  • Support in product development to generate entirely new revenue streams.
  • Be a positive role model, lead by example and champion the work our agency does and the direction that we are headed.
  • Seek out partnership opportunities with e.g. suppliers and other agencies.
  • Retain all relevant certifications.
  • Travel is expected for face-to-face pitches and client meetings.

Requirements

Experience:

  • We would expect a minimum of 8+ years' experience running media across Search, Social and Programmatic platforms for clients in multiple markets.
  • Must be able to demonstrate cross-channel strategic thinking and be comfortable planning media across multiple markets and platforms.
  • Proven client service experience ability to build relationships with Senior Stakeholders (including C-Suite) to unlock growth opportunities and/or resolve escalations.
  • Be known as a "thought leader".

  • Regularly adds value with customers, even with little exposure and looks for ways to deliver value above and beyond the normal scope of their role.
  • Creates efficient ways of working to improve their own and others workflow.
  • Is able to validate their teams work, spot errors before they become an issue. Be a point of escalation for work checking. Takes ownership with the team on client challenges.
  • Able to lead by example across a number of different work types, e.g. strategy, planning, implementation, checking results and correcting faults.
  • Is a leader. Shows leadership in taking ownership of any task and is happy to be accountable for any deliverables. Owns client relationships and escalations. Doesn't unnecessarily defer to Managing Director when client challenges become difficult.
  • Can spot opportunities to create or significantly evolve processes and procedures as part of the client work. Can train others on processes and ensure that they promote adherence to them.
  • A trusted senior decision maker.
  • Uses industry knowledge and expertise (from our business but also 3rd parties) to solution find and inspire clients.
