Overview The Department of Pediatrics in the Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida is seeking a full-time open rank faculty member who is fellowship-trained and/or board-certified in Pediatrics, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine with experience working in Child Abuse Pediatrics. This is a twelve (12) month, full-time, non-tenure earning clinical educator position. Salary is negotiable and based on experience and qualifications. Responsibilities The selected candidate will serve as the Regional Medical Director for the Child Abuse Pediatrics program, covering Hillsborough and Polk Counties. The position provides direct consultation and coordination with physicians and healthcare workers in the evaluation and management of suspected cases of child maltreatment/abuse. Provide both outpatient care and inpatient consultative services and provide clinical supervision to those delivering medical care. Collaborate with multiple community agencies, including the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and law enforcement. Support outpatient services through the community Child Advocacy Center at Mary Lee’s House and medical director coverage for the Children’s Home Society in Polk County. Supervise a team that includes nurse practitioners, case coordinators, a team supervisor and psychology support. Qualifications Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field, with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor. Board Certified in Pediatrics, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine with prior experience in Child Abuse Pediatrics and demonstrated expertise in managing child abuse and neglect cases. Eligible for full medical license in Florida. Fellowship training in Child Abuse Pediatrics is preferred, but not required. Additional Duties The position includes both outpatient care and inpatient consultative services. Clinical duties include call coverage per the Child Protection Team call schedule. The position is based out of Mary Lee’s House in Tampa, FL, with regular travel to surrounding counties required. Outpatient and inpatient care is provided by medical staff within the CAP program. The role includes supervision/oversight of those providing direct clinical coverage. Estimated patient volumes range from 1,200–1,500 in Hillsborough and 800–1,000 in Polk County. The Regional Medical Director will work with the Department of Children and Families and law enforcement (Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough and Polk Counties) in investigations of alleged abuse, provide recommendations, and serve as a subject matter expert for community health providers, in court, on committees, and at outreach events. Will follow the Florida Department of Health Child Protection Team Handbook for overall program deliverables and operations. Research duties: Collaborative effort within the Department and the University will be encouraged. Teaching duties: Contribute to departmental teaching programs involving residents, medical students and house staff. Participate in preparation/organization of new educational programs and university/college committees. Effectively utilize clinical practice as a teaching resource. Lead efforts to establish a child abuse fellowship program in the department. Other duties as assigned.
