Founding Director, Patient Financial Assistance (501(c)(3)) Job Category: DIRECTORS Requisition Number: FOUND006158 Full-Time Hybrid Salary Range: $115,500 USD to $215,000 USD Location: New Providence, NJ 07974, USA Description Role and Responsibilities Founding & Strategic Leadership Lead the formation and operational launch of the 501(c)(3) Patient Assistance Fund, including incorporation, governance setup, and regulatory filings. Establish the fund's mission, vision, policies, and long-term strategic plan in alignment with PRISM's patient centered values. Build and manage a small but high-performing team and advisory board. Fund Development & Partnerships Design and implement a diversified fundraising strategy (grants, individual donors, corporate sponsors, events) to sustain and grow the fund. Serve as the fund's public face cultivating donor relationships, securing major gifts, and increasing visibility in the healthcare philanthropy space. Partner with Finance, and Community Relations teams to align fundraising goals and messaging. Program Implementation Develop eligibility criteria and application processes to provide timely, equitable, and confidential financial assistance to patients in need. Collaborate with clinical operations, revenue cycle, and social work teams to integrate the program into the patient journey. Oversee distribution of funds and ensure responsible stewardship of resources. Negotiate MOUs with hospital systems, social-workers' networks Oversee 990 filings Governance & Compliance Work with legal counsel and external advisors to ensure full compliance with IRS 501(c)(3) regulations, HIPAA, and charitable giving standards. Establish strong internal controls, grantmaking processes, and audit readiness. Align programs with Anti-Kickback Statute safe-harbors Implement HIPAA-aware data practices Impact & Reporting Define success metrics and track outcomes related to financial relief, access to care, and patient satisfaction. Prepare and present regular reports to the board, leadership team, and key donors. Champion transparency and accountability across all aspects of the fund. Position Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, healthcare management, public policy or related field. Experience: 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare policy, public health administration, or a related field, with a minimum of 57 years in nonprofit management, healthcare philanthropy, or patient financial support programs. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Proven success in launching or scaling a 501(c)(3) organization, fund, or mission-based initiative. Familiarity with healthcare financial assistance policies, billing systems, and health equity frameworks. Excellent communication, leadership presence, and organizational skills. Fundraising experience, including donor cultivation, major gift solicitation, and grant writing. Skilled at building and maintaining relationships at all levels within the organization as well as externally with allies, current partners, and potential partners Effective with large and small audiences and on a one-on-one basis and to a wide range of constituencies Accuracy Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly with attention to all details of a project or task. Adaptability Ability to adapt to and facilitate change in the workplace. Communication Ability to communicate effectively with others using good listening skills.
