Executive Director – San Francisco Girls Chorus

Lead and inspire a talented team and the Board to actualize the San Francisco Girls Chorus’s mission, vision, and values as a dynamic leader in girls and young women’s vocal development and performance.

Organizational Overview

Established in 1978, the San Francisco Girls Chorus prepares girls and young women from diverse backgrounds for success through rigorous, empowering music education. The organization’s annual operating budget is approximately $2.7M and it operates the Kanbar Performing Arts Center, a hub for Bay Area arts organizations.

Key Leadership Responsibilities

  • Develop a clear organizational structure, measurable objectives, and a culture of transparency and professional growth for faculty and staff.
  • Maintain effective day-to-day program oversight and administrative operations, securing financial and human resources and evaluating program impact.
  • Build and nurture collaborative relationships with the Artistic Director, donors, parents, and community partners.
  • Drive fiscal stewardship, overseeing the $2.7M budget, ensuring financial viability, and managing the Kanbar Center’s facilities and resources.
  • Advance development and marketing strategy, cultivating major gifts, enhancing the organization’s brand, and expanding community relationships.
  • Governance partnership with the Board, supporting Board recruitment, participation, and strategic alignment with the organization’s mission.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated collaboration and partnership skills with Board, Artistic Director, staff, singers, and community stakeholders.
  • Experience working with young people and families.
  • Familiarity with arts funding models.
  • Calm, empathetic communicator who listens and leads with empathy.
  • Strong financial management knowledge and skill, communicating financial information in support of artistic and educational goals.
  • Track record of raising revenue from multiple sources.
  • Commitment to building relationships with donors and establishing new development pathways.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in increasingly responsible positions.
  • Experience in nonprofit arts administration, development, and marketing.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors or equivalent governing body.
  • Experience managing a complex organizational budget with numerous revenue sources.

Compensation and Employment Details

Full‑time, exempt position with a salary range of $160,000–$170,000 per year. Hybrid work schedule. The office is located at the Kanbar Center in San Francisco.
