Reporting to the Head of Underwriting & Portfolio Management for Maritime Finance, the Sr Underwriter and Portfolio Manager will be responsible for underwriting and portfolio management of asset-backed maritime financing transactions. The role includes leading deal teams, mentoring junior staff, and preparing presentations and reports for regulatory and internal purposes.
Responsibilities
Participating in deal teams to evaluate new transactions, conduct due diligence, prepare credit approval memos, and present to credit committees. Collaborating with legal teams on documentation and participating in deal closing. Analyzing financial statements, industry data, and transaction risks to recommend appropriate transaction structures. Providing recommendations based on due diligence and financial models. Managing assigned portfolio accounts by monitoring performance, covenant compliance, and reviewing amendments or waivers. Providing performance updates and participating in portfolio reviews. Maintaining familiarity with CIT policies, procedures, and standards. Collaborating with departments such as Legal, Operations, Insurance, and Risk Management. Developing maritime industry expertise, tracking trends across sub-sectors like dry bulk, tankers, containerships, LNG/LPG, and niche segments. Engaging with customers to gather information, conduct diligence, and support relationship management. Handling information requests from auditors and regulators, preparing reports, and working on special projects as needed. Mentoring junior team members to foster development within the business.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with 8 years of maritime finance experience, preferably in lending, or a High School Diploma with 12 years of relevant experience. Preferred qualifications include: Degree in finance or accounting; MBA/CFA/CPA is a plus. Formal credit training with experience in senior debt underwriting. Experience in structuring transactions and negotiating documentation. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and team orientation. Self-motivated with high energy, capable of prioritizing and multitasking. Solid understanding of financial statements, capital structures, and analytical skills. For NY, the base pay ranges from $205,000 to $250,000 annually, depending on experience and other factors. Total compensation may include bonuses and other incentives.
