The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Director, Planned Giving . Working as a member of the Development department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy. The Director, Planned Giving is a motivated leader focused on facilitating growth and relationship development of individual donors as part of ALA’s expansion of planned giving efforts to increase charitable/estate giving through direct donor work and field staff and volunteer collaboration. The successful candidate will meet or exceed annual goals by identifying, cultivating and soliciting new prospects to become Legacy Society donors and advancing relationships with current Legacy donors. Location: The position is located at the American Lung Association’s Chicago, Illinois office and will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual work. Responsibilities: Qualify and manage a portfolio of approximately 150 qualified, active prospects and high-value planned giving donors through all stages of the giving cycle Create a cultivation or stewardship plan for each person in the portfolio. Execute each plan on a timely basis to ensure that prospects are converted and retained. Develop and maintain an ambitious schedule of face-to-face (including virtual, if necessary) cultivation/solicitation/stewardship meetings (1/month). Partner with individual giving team colleagues to leverage opportunities to expand blended gift proposals and cultivate additional planned giving prospects. Assist in executing a stewardship plan for current Legacy donors. Work with professional advisors to cultivate them as allies of the ALA and increase the inclusion of the ALA in planning conversations. Track all activity in the CRM database and use this information to create monthly reports for management. Contribute to the development and implementation of a robust multi-channel marketing plan. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Five or more years fundraising experience, 3 years working in planned giving preferred. Proven track record of personally securing planned gifts of 5 to 6 figures. An understanding and command of planned giving vehicles and strategies. Goal oriented, independent, focused self-starter. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including strong presentation and negotiation skills. Exceptional listener with ability to understand needs and motivations of others, find common ground and build trust with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to represent mission and nonprofit programs in detail with passion and knowledge. Detail-oriented with strong, time management and organizational skills. Ability to manage multifaceted projects and a capacity to perform well independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment. Commitment to, and passion for, the Lung Association’s mission. Excellent research and prospecting skills. Must have the ability to travel within assigned area 15% of the time, or as required. Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $81,500 and $92,000 per annum. Benefits: The Lung Association offers a comprehensive benefits package including: Paid Leave - 10 vacation days in the first year (15 days thereafter), 2 personal days and 15 sick days per year, as well as 12 company-paid holidays per year.
