Career Opportunities with Manhattan University Position Title: Director of Planned Giving Reports To: Director of Capital Campaign Position Summary: The Director of Planned Giving is responsible for the management, growth and success of the planned giving program at Manhattan University. This position actively engages, cultivates, and solicits alumni and friends for major and planned gifts to support the University ’s mission. This is an in person on campus non - remote position. For more information please visit: manhattan.edu/giving/ Primary Responsibilities Strategic Planning : Develops a strategic fundraising plan to achieve a high degree of engagement with all planned giving prospects. Maps out successful marketing strategies and activities to achieve success in achieving fundraising goals. Manages a portfolio of 120-140 planned giving prospects with the capacity to contribute $100,000+ through estate and planned gifts. Cultivates and solicits prospects for gifts using planned giving software calculations and proposals. Achieves metrics goals including visits, solicitations, and revenue. Proposal Development: Utilizes planned giving software to develop fundraising proposals. Must have in depth working knowledge of planned giving vehicles and tax strategies that apply to specific donors, including charitable bequests, charitable annuities, life insurance, and charitable trusts. Marketing/Communications : Oversees the marketing of the planned giving program, including the development and distribution of the planned giving newsletter, targeted mailings for specific projects and the Jasper Challenge. Maintains the planned giving website. Manages the annual dinner for scholarship donors and student recipients. Reporting/Compliance : Develops, tracks and reports information relevant to planned gifts, including insurance policies, annuities and trusts. Ensures that the planned giving program is in compliance with federal and state laws. Stewardship: Stewards the relationships with the University ’s scholarship donors and as liaison between the Comptroller’s Office, Student Financial Services and student scholarship recipients. Other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge and Skills : Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills. Ability to successfully integrate the fundraising goals and objectives of Manhattan University with the planned giving program Thorough knowledge of planned and life income gift opportunities, gift and estate tax regulations, the principles of digital and print marketing campaigns, and major gift fundraising. Ability to think strategically to successfully negotiate with individuals and groups, both internally and externally. Ability to work effectively with professional advisors in the legal, financial, and tax fields. Ability to balance competing priorities, complex gift scenarios, and tight deadlines. Proficient with planned giving software and knowledge of the Raiser’s Edge database. Ability to work independently and in a team-based setting and to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously. Strong project management skills and a demonstrated ability to set and complete goals. Comfort in researching and analyzing large groups of data to uncover planned giving prospects. Ability to work across the University with administrative and academic leadership, trustees, faculty, and staff. Experience in developing strategies for prospects with excellent follow-through. Education: Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's or Law Degree Preferred. Minimum 5 years' work experience. Additional information: Planned giving course certification demonstrating mastery of planned giving vehicles, strategies, and best practices preferred.
