Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Senior Associate Director creates and implements comprehensive strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit high-capacity donors and prospective donors to the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL). This position builds engagement with these individuals and refines gift opportunities aligned with the MBL's priorities. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in major gift fundraising for 3+ years, familiarity with planned giving, experience closing life income and estate gifts, and closing gifts at $250K+ levels. They should be entrepreneurial, curious, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, passionate about working with people, and committed to advancing the MBL's mission. This is a hybrid position; fully remote candidates residing in the greater Boston/Cambridge area will be considered. Responsibilities : Develop and execute fundraising strategies across geographical regions, with approximately 40% travel. Expand membership and coordinate activities for MBL Council leadership donors and the 1888 Society of planned giving donors. Collaborate with the Events and Community Engagement team on donor and prospect events. Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects with the capacity for $100,000+ gifts or planned gifts at similar levels. Conduct approximately 100 prospect visits annually. Maintain communication with MBL and university colleagues to coordinate prospect/donor relationships. Provide follow-up through proposals, gift agreements, and stewardship reports. Manage fundraising projects, including strategy development, progress oversight, and collateral coordination. Partner on strategic planning and solicit support aligned with the MBL's priorities. Perform additional duties as assigned. Education : Bachelor's degree or higher required. Experience : At least four years in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, or related fields. At least three years of soliciting and closing major gifts or equivalent donor work. Two or more years of project or initiative leadership preferred. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements : Willingness and ability to travel for MBL business. Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
