About the Opportunity
Our client, a fast-growing commercial real estate company headquartered in Denver, CO, is seeking a Director of Finance to lead and evolve their financial operations. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Director of Finance will play a pivotal role in driving financial strategy, strengthening operational controls, and ensuring investor-ready reporting. With a portfolio of 19 properties and active acquisition goals, this role offers the chance to shape the financial future of a company in growth mode while working side by side with senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities of the Director of Finance
Financial Leadership & Strategy
Partner with the CFO to refine and execute financial strategies that align with growth and acquisition plans.
Deliver insights, analysis, and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
Serve as a trusted advisor across the organization, balancing day-to-day needs with long-term planning.
Accounting & Month-End Close
Lead the month-end close process across multiple entities and properties, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
Standardize and streamline close procedures, targeting a two-week completion timeline.
Oversee accruals, property taxes, rent and bill payments, and all general ledger activity.
Reporting & Investor Relations
Build and deliver polished, investor-ready financial packages.
Develop dashboards and reporting tools (Excel and AppFolio) to provide real-time financial visibility.
Manage lender relationships and support all investor communication and reporting requirements.
Process Improvement & Systems Optimization
Identify and implement process enhancements to increase efficiency and scalability.
Lead the transition of outsourced AP/AR functions and drive automation of manual workflows.
Maximize AppFolio and other financial systems to create more streamlined reporting and operations.
Director of Finance Qualifications
Must-Haves Proven experience as a Controller or Director of Finance in commercial real estate.
Deep expertise in property-level accounting, month-end close, and investor reporting.
Proficiency with property management/accounting platforms (AppFolio, Yardi, MRI).
Advanced Excel skills with a focus on dashboards, automation, and modeling.
Hands-on leadership style with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
Nice-to-Haves Real estate M&A experience (due diligence, integration, post-close).
Experience managing outsourced functions and building scalable in-house teams.
Background in fund or entity-level consolidation.
Strong coaching and mentoring skills for developing accounting staff.
