Description The Director of Finance ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, internal controls are being adhered to, and procedures are carried out by generally accepted accounting principles for the Community Food Bank (CFB).
Responsibilities
Safeguards assets and assures accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits and financial controls across all departments and branches.
Manages the accuracy and productivity of accounts payable, cash disbursements, petty cash, cash receipts, accruals, fixed asset records, TRNA, revenue recognition, debt repayment, and general accounting functions.
Reviews financial transactions prepared by accounting staff.
Maintains an orderly chart of accounts and accounting filing system.
Functions as a finance committee member, as directed by the CFO.
Supervises and trains assigned staff; maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and creating performance improvement plans.
Works effectively with key management, staff, and volunteers of the Community Food Bank (CFB).
Ensures uniformity of transaction coding in the financial system and that coding is accurate and compliant with GAAP.
Ensures the completion of monthly asset reconciliations.
Prepares monthly and annual financial information for related committees and the Board of Directors.
Prepares schedules necessary for the annual financial audit, single audit, 401K audit, and Form 990 tax return.
Works closely with the CFO to prepare the annual operating and capital budgets.
Helps achieve budget objectives by analyzing variances, recommending plans, and initiating corrections.
Participates in special projects and compiles various special reports.
Ensures financial administration is consistent with the organization’s goals and objectives.
Files external financial reports as assigned by the CFO and advises management on needed actions.
Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and laws.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge through education, reviewing publications, networking, and participating in professional societies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge in financial management, government grants management, risk management, planning and forecasting.
Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income tax and banking knowledge.
Experience with various modular accounting software.
Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in leading change management and strategy development.
Commitment to the CFB mission.
High interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive situations.
Highly organized with a proven track record of efficiency and effectiveness.
Strong analytical skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.
Ability to travel within the five-county service area and to conferences/meetings.
Ability to work with diverse backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications
Eight to ten years of experience in auditing, accounting, financial operations, and business management.
Five years of experience leading teams and managing staff.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.
Arizona Driver’s License and clean three-year driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or professional degree in Finance or related field.
Experience working with grants.
Experience in nonprofit organizations at staff or Board levels.
Experience in organizational development and management.
Experience with food banks.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Physical Requirements
Light work – ability to exert 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
