About the Role:

As the Director of Engineering, you will own the strategic direction and execution of Finfare's engineering organization which includes all of our Engineers, DevOps, Information Technology, and Data teams.. This role combines hands-on leadership with high-level planning across platform scalability, product roadmap execution, infrastructure design, application/cloud development, and team development. You will work closely with the executive team and cross-functional leaders to ensure the engineering function is delivering value that aligns with our business goals of optimizing systems, processes, and data-driven decision making.

This role is ideal for a collaborative, startup-savvy technology leader who thrives on building scalable systems, mentoring high-performing teams, and delivering products that move the needle. Please note that this is a FULLY on-site role (M-F) at our Irvine, CA headquarters. No remote applicants. Relocation is required for non-local candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a world-class engineering organization that scales with the needs of a rapidly evolving fintech company.
  • Drive the execution of the product and platform roadmap in close partnership with Engineering, DevOps, IT, Product, Data, and Business teams.
  • Oversee the architecture, development, and deployment of scalable, secure, and performant systems.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and high ownership across engineering teams.
  • Identify emerging trends and technologies that give Finfare a competitive advantage, and strategically integrate them into our stack.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align priorities, manage dependencies, and communicate technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hire, coach, and retain top engineering talent; implement best practices in onboarding, performance management, and team development.
  • Ensure best-in-class DevOps, site reliability, observability, and security practices across our platforms.
  • Maintain a strong focus on quality, stability, and uptime in all engineering deliverables.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: reaching, sitting, lifting (≤25 pounds), finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.

Work Environment

  • Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Somewhat quiet but can be boisterous at times.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in engineering roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or VP-level position.
  • 7+ years of experience in senior+ individual contributor either a frontend, backend, or full stack engineering role

  • Proven experience building and leading distributed, agile engineering teams in high-growth SaaS or fintech companies.
  • Deep knowledge of backend and frontend technologies, security, compliance, scalable infrastructure (AWS), and CI/CD practices.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Ability to drive alignment across teams and communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Passion for startups and a bias toward shipping impactful solutions with speed and quality.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in financial services, payments, sponsor-bank model, data governance, or charge card systems.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC2, PCI, ISO 27001).
  • Exposure to modern data platforms, event-driven architecture, or AI/ML in production systems.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $220K-$255K (depending on experience).
