POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Admissions oversees the entire admissions process for Nexus Health Systems, ensuring that prospective patients and their families experience a professional, efficient, and compassionate entry into care. The Director supervises the Admissions team - including Clinical Reviewers and Admissions Coordinators - while coordinating closely with program leaders, referral partners, and payers. This role requires expertise in admissions workflow, prior authorization processes, payer relations, and data oversight, combined with strong leadership skills and strategic vision. JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership & Supervision • Manage and mentor a team of Admissions staff, including Clinical Reviewers and Admissions Coordinators. • Establish performance standards, conduct evaluations, and support staff professional development. Admissions Process Oversight • Ensure timely and accurate review of referrals, clinical records, and evaluations. • Oversee preparation and submission of prior authorizations to insurance and other funders. • Monitor admissions workflows to optimize efficiency and compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. Collaboration & Stakeholder Relations • Partner with clinical and operational teams to support smooth transitions into Nexus programs. • Collaborate with external stakeholders, and ensure that team members’ communications with external stakeholders are thorough, timely, and in compliance with organizational expectations. Data & Reporting • Oversee admissions data collection, tracking, and reporting. • Use data to evaluate referral trends, payer approval rates, and process improvement opportunities. • Provide regular updates to executive leadership, synthesizing data to tell the story of what is working and where we can improve and innovate. Strategic Leadership • Contribute to organizational growth initiatives, including market outreach and relationship building with referral partners. • Ensure admissions policies and practices align with Nexus Health Systems’ mission, compliance standards, and strategic goals.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Nursing, or related field. • Doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD, DSW) is a plus but not required.
EXPERIENCE: • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in admissions, utilization review, behavioral health, or healthcare administration. • At least 3 years of supervisory/management experience. • Direct experience with payer relations, prior authorizations, and clinical referral review. • Familiarity with populations served: autism, intellectual/developmental disabilities, behavioral health, and medically complex individuals.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: • Active clinical license (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT, RN, Psychologist, BCBA) preferred. • Administrative/leadership certification or training a plus.
Skills & Attributes • Proven leadership and team management skills. • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities. • Proficiency with data systems, EMR/CRM/clinical record platforms, and reporting tools. • Ability to balance clinical, operational, and strategic priorities. • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
