Job Description This position reports to the Executive Director of Workforce Development and Career Education. The primary function is to provide leadership and oversight for the development and management of the Center for Advanced Manufacturing. The Director will collaborate with other college constituencies, such as academic departments, the RVCC Foundation, and Enrollment Management, to expand program opportunities. The Director will develop statewide collaborations with industry and higher education institutions to expand the development of the advanced manufacturing industry. The Director, working with the Executive Director of Workforce Development and Career Education, shall be responsible for planning and directing the development of goals and objectives for the Advanced Manufacturing Program.
Responsibilities Collaborate with the Executive Director of Workforce Development and Career Education and develop appropriate business plans for initiatives, articulating revenue sources including tuition and grant monies to support a revenue-generating operation.
Lead the planning, organization, scheduling, and direction of Advanced Manufacturing programs to meet community and regional needs.
Analyze employment trends and investigate grant opportunities to support initiatives that provide programs for jobs focused on the future and opportunities for living wages.
Develop programs that progress from short certificates through an associate degree (and potentially related bachelor’s degrees with participating institutions).
Incorporate career planning and deliver programs delivered on or off campus, at remote sites, and online.
Educate for regional needs and provide opportunities for internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, and other high-impact practices.
Essential Duties Direct and deliver professional development, training and technical assistance solutions to business and industry, including a focus on sales lifecycle.
Demonstrate understanding of the apprenticeship model of education.
Participate in grants with external partners to meet training and technical assistance goals.
Conduct advisory committee meetings, client meetings, workshops, grant meetings, project meetings, and network events to meet annual goals.
Coordinate curriculum development and revision to reflect local employer needs.
Maximize student enrollment and completion and minimize time-to-completion for manufacturing programs.
Develop and schedule new course offerings and advise on program expansion.
Develop staffing plans and coordinate instructors, evaluate faculty and personnel.
Set program goals and objectives; coordinate with Marketing and other program directors for promotional materials.
Engage in program outreach/recruitment to secondary schools and the general public.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, Business Administration, or related field.
5 to 7 years of administrative experience with workforce programs and demonstrated advanced manufacturing industry experience.
Progressive leadership experience and experience in developing, organizing and managing instructional programs.
Demonstrated collaboration with government entities and industry.
Strong academic values, exceptional oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, entrepreneurial spirit, and sensitivity to diverse student bodies.
Proven track record in workforce training and development.
Willingness to work nontraditional office conditions and hours; travel between main campus, off-campus sites, government, education and business offices; some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering with a manufacturing focus (preferred).
