Associate Director for Edge Networking

This position is for an Associate Director for Edge Networking at the University of Texas at Austin. The role involves managing and operating the Edge Networking group, which supports access layer wired/wireless networks, data center, and student residential networks. Responsibilities: Establish standards and procedures for work assignments, review work, evaluate employee performance, and provide training. Hands-on involvement with select network projects, including specifying equipment and installing. Implement and enforce architectures and systems, ensure network designs deliver "best value", and develop and recommend network policies. Plan, organize, and schedule Edge Network projects, assign tasks to personnel, and track progress. Provide leadership, guidance, and development for federated/autonomous departmental network staff and establish campus-wide standards for Edge Network operations. Report to Director/AVP on progress, seek priorities, and coordinate with peers. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field. 8+ years of experience designing, deploying, configuring, and operating large-scale wired and wireless networks. Experience with Cisco wired and wireless network equipment and software. Security design and operations experience, including HIPPA/FERPA/PCI/CUI compliance. 5+ years of experience in a leadership or managerial role overseeing technical teams. Strong management and leadership skills, including coaching, consensus building, and resource management. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with ServiceNow ITIL incident and task management. Experience with network automation, such as Ansible, AWX, and Zero-touch Provisioning (ZTP). Experience with Network Access Control (NAC) or Identity-based network services (IBNS). Experience with business continuity and disaster recovery planning. Familiarity with Software Defined Networking implementation.
