Technology Director Commerce

The Technology Director for Commerce Delivery will play the central role in the complete solution lifecycle from presales efforts and responding to RFPs to designing the solution and envisioning follow up work to implementation and deployment into production systems. The implementation portion will include driving and overseeing the software architecture, supporting development, providing client-facing tech leadership and the ultimate responsibility for the technical output of your portfolio of projects and programs. This role requires a proven technical skill set that has been demonstrated in the development of enterprise Line of Business applications and their integration into heterogeneous enterprise systems through Commerce Platforms.

  • Commerce architect SME with a desire to lead large projects and programs technically, able to dive in when needed, while providing high-level guidance and direction to teams and clients.
  • Comfortable across a wide range of technologies, including multiple development languages, relational and non-relational databases, web frameworks, automation tools, caching, and queuing.
  • Able to understand business needs, review architecture plans, and articulate suggestions, likely limitations, and proposed alternatives.
  • A strategic thinker with solid interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Skilled at guiding architecture teams to envision and communicate solutions based on early client requirements, mentoring team members, and providing hands-on input when needed (e.g., for proofs of concept).
  • Demonstrated success applying agile software development methods and enterprise application patterns, with strong leadership to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Comfortable engaging in client and sales discussions, including RFP responses and technical presentations.

What Youll Do

  • Drive Smith Commerce best practices and the technical review process across your project portfolio.
  • Provide technical oversight and leadership to delivery teams and clients, ensuring high-quality solutions and alignment with architectural standards.
  • Guide customers and project teams on technical feasibility, complexity, and level of effort always presenting clear recommendations and options.
  • Scope, design, and support delivery of complex technical solutions, including platform evolution and modernization.
  • Participate in the strategy, standardization, analysis, design, and implementation phases of client initiatives.
  • Support UX-focused initiatives with a solid understanding of optimizing front-end experiences for performance, scalability, and consistency, with an understanding of how to leverage UX design systems.
  • Provide on-site or virtual technical leadership with key business stakeholders, analysts, and other Solution Architects or Technical Leads as needed.
  • Partner with Sales to support RFP responses, client presentations, and account strategy discussions.
  • Prototype and validate the feasibility of proposed technology solutions when applicable.
  • Participate in ongoing sales and strategy meetings to align technology direction with go-to-market plans.

  • College/University technical degree required; Computer Science or Math background preferred
  • Extensive hands-on architecture and development experience with SAP Commerce
  • 10+ years in e-Commerce architecture, systems integration and development, package implementation, relational databases, with knowledge of multiple technologies and interactive design using e-Commerce platforms such as Hybris, Demandware, GSI, Intershop, IBM WebSphere, ATG, Magento, Kibo Commerce, commerce tools
  • 3-5 years of project experience in architecting of SAP Commerce applications
  • Experience in Java, Object Oriented programming and Multi-Threaded programming is required
  • Experience with Single Page Applications, headless solutions for CMS, Search
  • 5+ years hands-on customer facing management and technical delivery experience
  • Experience in full lifecycle software development processes and methods
  • Experience with Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions
  • Proven knowledge and experience with Agile methodologies, and enterprise integration and software development patterns.
  • Strong desire to provide thought leadership related to technology and help grow the business.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with employees at all levels of a customers organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective presentation, organizational and planning skills.
