About Voces:
Voces de la Frontera is a national leader in the movement for immigrant and worker rights and the largest grassroots Latinx membership organization in Wisconsin. Led by low-wage immigrant workers and students, Voces works to protect and expand civil rights and workers rights through leadership development, community organizing, and collective empowerment. VDLF has chapters in Milwaukee, Racine, Madison, Green Bay/Fox Cities, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Waukesha, Walworth County, Kenosha, and West Bend. Voces' student arm is called Youth Empowered in the Struggle (YES).
Note: This position will include work for both Voces de la Frontera and our 501c4 sister organization Voces de la Frontera Action (VDLFA).
Statewide Youth Organizing Director (full-time)
Scope of Work:
The Statewide Youth Organizing Director coordinates and supervises all activity of Voces de la Fronteras youth arm, Youth Empowered in the Struggle (YES). The goal of the position is to create a broad base of youth, mostly high school age and college to work on youth-led campaigns for social and economic justice. Organizing director's position is based in Milwaukee but the organizing director will travel throughout the state to organize youth on issues that are important to our youth and the communities that they are part of. The work centers around building school based high school and college youth chapters and working with youth organizers assigned to those chapters in building a grassroots youth led movement that builds youth power that impacts the quality of their lives.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise all YES program staff (organizers and interns)
- Moniter progress of staff, tracking membership growth and organizing activities with weekly meetings
- Develop and advise campaigns in areas of immigrant rights, civic engagement, and educational justice
- Attend Voces staff meetings and coordinate youth program work with the work of the organization, including intergenerational activities
- Coordinate and execute chapter leadership meetings
- Plan core leader trainings
- Build relationships with and take direction from teacher advisors, including running monthly meetings where organizers are not assigned.
- Plan trips and support for big actions
- Provide college chapters with invitations to leadership development trainings and offer roles/involvement in campaigns
- Manage youth membership progress along with youth staff and leaders to meet yearly membership goals
- Attend high school chapter meetings biweekly for assigned chapters to build membership, involve current and new teacher advisors, increase parent involvement, and build leadership of student leaders
- Work with the Executive Director and Development Director on fundraising and reporting that is pertinent to program funds.
- Manage United We Dream (UWD), Milwaukee Teachers Education Association (MTEA), National Education Association (NEA), elected official, School Board, and other coalition and funding relationships
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years experience in union organizing, community organizing, youth leadership development, and/or program development
- Experience in NLRB union election campaigns, electoral campaigns, managing canvases
- Experience with leadership development, organizing strategies and civic engagement campaigns
- Demonstrated capacity in working with diverse youth populations, school-based organizing a plus
- Demonstrated capacity in working with diverse stakeholders including program advisors, school staff and funders
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
- Experience with digital organizing a plus
- Experience with immigrant rights organizing preferred
- Must be willing to travel with frequency
- Must have reliable vehicle, car insurance and valid drivers license
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule which accommodates youth schedules including evenings and weekends
- Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite and other basic computer programs

Salary: $66,000/annually with benefits
