About the Role: As the Senior Director, Tax Operations, you will lead and oversee all aspects of Grocery Outlet's tax compliance and tax provision processes. You will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with all U.S. federal, state and local tax laws and US GAAP reporting requirements and supporting the company's financial objectives. This leadership position requires a strategic thinker with exceptional management skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to drive operational excellence in a fast-paced, innovative environment. The Senior Director, Tax Operations will report to the Chief Financial Officer. Responsibilities Include:
- Tax Compliance Oversight: Manage and oversee the process and co-sourcing relationship with outside providers in relation to the preparation and review of U.S. federal and state tax returns, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Tax Provision Leadership: Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual tax provisions under ASC 740 inclusive of SEC compliant disclosures, including coordination with finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Strategic Planning: Partner with the CFO and other Company leaders to identify opportunities to optimize the company's tax position.
- Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing tax operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Process Optimization: Drive efficiencies in tax operations through technology, automation, and best practices, enhancing accuracy and scalability.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, treasury, and accounting, as well as external advisors, to support company-wide objectives.
- Indirect Tax Compliance Oversight: Manage and oversee the preparation and review of indirect tax areas including sales & use tax, B&O tax, gross receipts tax, sugar tax, and personal property tax, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Policies, Procedures and SOX Compliance: Develop and implement policies and procedures. Foster and adhere to a strong internal control environment.
- Tax Audit Oversight: Manage tax audits and settlement negotiations.
About The Pay:
- Base Salary Range: $195,000 - $225,000 Annually

About You:
- 15+ years of experience in tax preferred, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing tax compliance and provision processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or advanced degree (e.g., Master's in Taxation, JD) strongly preferred.
- Expertise in U.S. federal and state tax laws.
- Proven experience managing tax provisions under ASC 740 and working with financial reporting teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team, with excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with a track record of solving complex technical and process related issues.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Prior experience in a publicly traded company, retail industry exp. is a plus
