Key Competencies:
Experience Required: 5 to 10 years buying experience in Beer, Wine or Liquor
Education Desired: Bachelors Degree in Business or related field
Experience Required: Strategic Leadership & Vision – Ability to set clear direction for the Beer, Wine & Liquor business, develop long-term strategies, and translate vision into actionable plans that achieve sales, margin, and household share goals.
Experience Required: Category & Industry Expertise – Deep knowledge of beer, wine, and liquor markets, consumer trends, pricing strategies, and assortment planning, with the ability to identify opportunities and build competitive advantage
Experience Required: Financial & Business Acumen – Skilled in budget development, forecasting, P&L management, and ROI analysis to drive profitability and ensure strong financial performance across the LOB.
Supplier & Stakeholder Relationship Management – Proven ability to build and maintain strong partnerships with suppliers, regulatory bodies, and internal cross-functional teams to ensure growth, compliance, and alignment.
Talent Development & Team Leadership – Strong track record of mentoring, developing, and succession planning for high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
Job Responsibilities
Deliver overall LOB financial goals (i.e. sales and margin; increase household share within LOB)
Develop and deliver on LOB budgets and re-forecasts.
Develop and execute LOB strategic plan and corresponding AOP.
Manage the overall business relationship to ensure growth and business continuity and ensure the necessary business connections are in place at senior level of key suppliers.
Work directly with Operations Leadership (SVP and RDOs), and other leadership teams across the organization to ensure goals and objectives are achieved.
Direct and guide product selection, pricing strategy, promotional plans and advertising plans to maximize sales and profit potential.
Develop and maintain strong working relationship State of Ohio Liquor.
Devise and deliver key programs, platforms and events with detailed execution plans across all formats.
Develop and execute brand exclusive strategies across key beer, wine and liquor variables to drive sales and margin.
Establish penetration rates and key profitability targets.
Direct and drive social, digital and advertising strategy.
Serve as key strategic leader on internal cross functional teams and special projects.
Direct the Category Merchants in the development of category plans.
Ensure category reviews are done in holistic and timely fashion across beer, wine and liquor to ensure delivery of business plan inclusive of developing key category review schedules, POG space productivity, assortment optimization, and gross margin ROI
Direct and guide product selection, pricing strategy, promotional plans and advertising plans to maximize sales and profit potential
Direct Beer, Wine and Liquor Specialists’ focus areas and field activities.
Assume direct responsibility for succession planning, talent upgrades, mentoring and career pathing.
Establish and maintain a professional, trained and motivated staff through effective implementation of performance and career development programs (i.e. Cicerone, WSET, DAPS and PIPS)
Implement and support all leadership development tools to ensure continuous development of Team Members and their ability to meet changing customer requirements and the Company's business objectives in carrying out Company strategy
