Job Summary The Service Director of Midwifery Allied Health at Denver Health will be a master's prepared advanced practice nurse from an accredited school of nursing with completion of an accredited Nurse Midwifery Program. The Director will have a demonstrated reputation for excellence in clinical care, leadership, teaching, and mentoring. The Director will oversee all care delivered by Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) and designated Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Denver Health. They will provide leadership in collaboration with the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology within an integrated practice environment. Responsibilities include strategic planning, clinical services, professional and business performance, regulatory compliance, education, and fostering departmental culture. The goal is to promote a culture of excellence in an integrated midwifery service, ensuring high-quality patient care and clinical standards driven by patient safety and outcomes monitoring. This role is eligible for a leadership stipend in accordance with Denver Health policy. Essential Functions : Clinical Expectations : Lead clinical quality initiatives aimed at improving patient experience, safety, and outcomes across Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Obstetric Emergency Department, and outpatient sites. Develop and oversee critical pathways, protocols, and practice guidelines for quality and cost-effective care. Establish and report quality improvement metrics for the Midwifery Service and APPs. Apply best practices and regulatory requirements, utilizing benchmarking and data analysis. Promote internal data collection and research activities. Drive care management innovation and optimize resource allocation in partnership with the Chair. Provide full-scope midwifery clinical care as needed. Maintain professional growth, stay current with medical literature, and precept trainees. Develop and evaluate health education programs. Administrative Expectations : Maintain high standards of practice and oversee patient safety and peer review programs. Manage clinical, professional, financial, and educational activities of the Midwifery Service. Foster a culture of open dialogue, teamwork, and staff wellness. Build collaborative relationships internally and externally. Develop standards and policies; supervise providers. Support provider development, recruitment, and succession planning. Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Adhere to Medical Staff Bylaws and hospital policies. Communication / Change Management Expectations : Establish effective communication channels with staff and administration. Lead by example, promoting transparency, accountability, and constructive feedback. Mentor and develop staff, fostering a positive work environment. Manage conflicts and promote teamwork. Communicate department performance and patient care information effectively. Leadership Expectations : Establish credibility and trust as a clinical leader. Build relationships to enhance quality, education, and recruitment. Evaluate and improve clinical operations for better performance and patient experience. Strengthen collaborative culture among providers. Monitor quality metrics and outcomes, ensuring accountability. Lead performance improvement initiatives for service excellence and outcomes. Education : Master's Degree from a nationally accredited midwifery program. Required. Work Experience : 4-6 years as a full-scope midwife, including high-risk obstetrics and triage experience. Required. 1-3 years of leadership experience. Preferred. Demonstrated leadership in a high-performing midwifery service. Required. Prescriptive Authority (24-6 years). Required. Licenses : CNMRXN - Nurse Midwife Prescriber (DORA). Required. CNM - Certified Nurse Midwife (AMCB). Required. BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA or Red Cross). Required.
