Overview

Senior Medical Science Liaison, Dermatology (Boston Metro) at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine. Based in Boston, MA territory. This role requires travel up to 80% within the assigned geography.

Responsibilities

  • Provide fair, balanced, objective, scientific information and education to opinion leaders (OLs), health care professionals, and internal partners as required by scientific and business needs.
  • Serve as an established scientific and clinical knowledge lead on current and future J&J Innovative Medicine products per Therapeutic Area alignment.
  • Stay abreast of current scientific and treatment landscape trends in the therapeutic areas of interest.
  • Support research through company and investigator initiated research; build external relationships with OLs and health care providers and manage a geographical territory.
  • Develop and maintain a territory strategic plan including educational activities with OLs, HCPs, institutions, and community practices.
  • Develop competency in Influence & Results Focused, Communication, Stakeholder Engagement, Product & Therapeutic Area Knowledge, and Data Insights & Dissemination; collaborate with field-based partners to support healthcare providers in patient care.
  • Enhance skills in agility, Change Management, Time Management, and Innovation; conduct activities in accordance with regulatory and health care compliance guidelines.
  • Travel approximately 80% of the time within the assigned geography, with infrequent travel outside the geography.

Executive & Scientific Activities

  • Leverage knowledge of standards of care, Janssen/Immunology programs, investigator sponsored trials, and competitor landscape to support external-internal research communication.
  • Engage with external investigators regarding unsolicited research inquiries and act as liaison to R&D, Medical Affairs, and operations teams.
  • Provide clinical trial support to identify potential sites, resolve issues with enrolled sites, and participate in meetings including site initiation visits and investigator launch meetings.
  • Lead at least one scientific or strategic Immunology project and identify educational gaps to elevate team acumen.

Scientific Acumen

  • Participate in team calls, trainings, and journal clubs; understand current standard of care and share scientific news.
  • Attend and contribute at scientific conferences to gather relevant information for the company and external scientific community.
  • Document and share medical insights; synthesize data for MSL team and other partners.
  • Commit to self-driven learning on the current scientific landscape.
  • Represent and support J&J at relevant scientific or stakeholder meetings, congresses, symposia, advisory boards, and investigator meetings; represent J&J at speaking engagements as appropriate.

Department Operations & Internal Partners

  • Perform administrative requirements (e.g., expense reports, activity documentation) timely, accurately, and compliantly.
  • Maintain focus and composure in uncertain circumstances with minimal direction.
  • Provide regional/local support to enhance sales training initiatives and improve field competencies with Sales Learning and Development.
  • Communicate and collaborate with field partners and Immunology MSL teams regularly.
  • Lead or participate in large-scale projects with other teams as needed.
  • Maintain understanding and competence in regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines, corporate policies on ethical behavior, and Medical Affairs SOPs.

Qualifications

  • PharmD, PhD, MD, or other advanced medical degree; NP/PA with +3 years relevant TA clinical experience.
  • 3+ years of MSL experience or 3+ years of relevant work experience in clinical, research, or related pharma areas.
  • Significant experience giving presentations.
  • Ability to travel up to 75–80% including overnight travel and some weekend commitments.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Reside within the defined assigned territory.

Preferred

  • Knowledge or experience in the relevant TA and/or Immunology.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and remote technologies.
  • Reside in or near Boston, MA.

The expected base pay range for this position is $137,000 to $235,750. This position is eligible for a company car through the Fleet program and eligible for an annual performance bonus per applicable plan. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement plans, subject to plan terms. This job posting is anticipated to close on June 11, 2025, with possible extension.
