Overview

GEICO is looking for an accomplished, customer obsessed, and results oriented Senior Director of Product Management. This role will continuously monitor evolution in the insurance industry, innovation in parallel industries, competitor products, market, and consumer trends to drive product portfolios. The ideal candidate will deeply learn the financial drivers, externalities, and points of leverage within the product portfolio domain to identify new products or product enhancements that drive sustainable value. This role will be responsible for establishing a long-term product portfolio strategy, informed by customer and business needs, and partner with leaders and stakeholders to regularly drive alignment, secure resources and overcome impediments. S/he will be comfortable influencing executives and the top level of the organization as well as communicating an inspirational product future of their portfolios. In addition, this leader will attract, grow, empower, and inspire top product talent as they develop and deliver on their product strategy in an iterative, outcome-focused, and well-managed way.

Location

This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum, on-site presence of 2 to 3 days per week at our Palo Alto (primary location) or Chicago, IL or Chevy Chase office (DMV).

Responsibilities

  • Represent a portfolio of products at the top level of the organization
  • Partner closely across the organization to identify new product concepts articulating how they will drive value for customers, the organization and differentiate GEICO in the marketplace
  • Craft an inspirational vision for a portfolio of products, with clarity of how products come together to drive experience for GEICO customers, associates and partners across all channels and insurance offerings
  • Ensure the suite of products is seamless for customers so they do not experience the organizational structure and underlying processes
  • Continuously assess performance of products within the portfolio and identify any areas where cost of product is higher than value generated with recommendations on next steps
  • Plan and outline decommissioning of underperforming products and/or features with a proactive communication plan inclusive of customer impact and potential alternatives
  • Oversee sunsetting of products and decommissioning of product services as necessary
  • Model adaptability by encouraging continuous evolution to product portfolio considering industry trends, emerging solutions, new insights and changing customer and business needs
  • Ensure product team is leveraging design thinking, systems thinking and agile best practices as part of the product life cycle
  • Translate portfolio vision into a 12-18-month strategic portfolio roadmap mapped to outcomes and value creation
  • Identify product portfolio level KPIs and coaching team to adjust and refine products the data dictates
  • Proactive partner with Technology leaders to define end-state architecture that enables product portfolio and ensure products are secure, resilient, performant, and scalable that solve material customer and business problems
  • Lead a product team of 12 people including Product Directors, Senior Product Managers and Product Managers, with the potential to scale the team further
  • Nurture, develop and coach product leaders identifying opportunities for growth and achieve measurable goals

Requirements

  • 9+ years’ experience in product leadership positions with proven record of successfully launching products (at least half of it from building consumer facing products)
  • 6+ years in managing 5+ major products
  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions and drive change
  • 8+ years of experience hiring, managing, and developing product managers (individual contributors and people managers)
  • Experience working with both technical and business stakeholders (Marketing, Operations, Data, etc.)
  • Familiar with organizational maturity and related transformation
  • Demonstrated experience influencing senior management and setting expectations for major cross-functional initiatives
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with insurance, financial services, or parallel industries
  • Bachelor\'s degree or higher in a related field
  • Design Thinking, Agile, Product Certifications preferred

Compensation

Base pay range
$195,000.00/yr - $315,000.00/yr

Annual Salary: $195,000.00 - $315,000.00. The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
