Position Information Position Information Posting Number Posting Number S-3641 Position Number Position Number 72535 Type of Recruitment Type of Recruitment External Position Title Position Title SENIOR DIRECTOR / DEVELOPMENT / COLLEGE OF MEDICINE Position Summary The Senior Director of Development for the College of Medicine ( CMED ) plays a critical leadership role in advancing the mission and impact of CMED through strategic philanthropic engagement. As a senior member of the CMED advancement team, this position is responsible for helping design, implement, and execute development strategies that generate significant support through principal, major and planned gifts, while collaborating closely with the broader University Advancement team. The Senior Director will focus on identifying, cultivating, and soliciting high-capacity individuals capable of principal-level commitments and planned gifts, while also contributing to the college’s overall development strategy. The Director also has the responsibility to raise upwards of $3,000,000 annually. This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Advancement and Campaign Strategies and works collaboratively with CMED leadership, university leadership, development colleagues, and other university partners. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. Six years of professional experience in sales, marketing, fundraising, or a related field. Demonstrated successful and progressively responsible relationship development experience in fundraising, sales, customer service, and/or alumni/donor relations. Exceptional interpersonal and persuasive verbal and written communication skills, including projecting a positive and professional attitude. Proven track record working both independently and as part of a team while inspiring trust and confidence with colleagues and constituents. Ability to successfully handle competing priorities and manage projects. Proficiency with Microsoft e-mail, excel, word, and online applications. Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license. Ability to meet travel requirements, including air and vehicle travel. Must be able to lift and carry files and promotional materials. Must be willing to work evening and/or weekend hours as necessary. Must be able to make compelling direct, face-to-face solicitations as well as in written proposals, and assist other staff with their solicitation plans (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications). Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Preferred Qualifications Graduate degree. Experience working in higher education. Experience working in a medical or healthcare related field. Fundraising experience closing major gifts of $500,000 and more. Experience working with planned or legacy giving. Ability to plan and execute a fundraising project from conception to realization. Demonstrated ability to effectively create and maintain relationships with a constituent base. Experience in proposal development and/or grant writing. Experience with prospective donor relationship development/management and/or other similar client development principles and techniques. Knowledge of best practices in leadership and major gift fundraising, as well as relevant policies, procedures, and software associated with planned giving opportunities. Considerable knowledge and a successful record of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Knowledge of and skill in using fundraising databases and planned giving software. Proficient in the use of data to develop performance measurements, show portfolio growth, and project gift yield. Experience leveraging the advantages of social media, virtual presentation methods, and website resources to make connections and build relationships. Ability to work independently and as part of a team while inspiring trust and confidence with colleagues and constituents. Duties & Responsibilities Serves as a senior frontline fundraiser for the College of Medicine with a primary focus on principal, major, and planned gifts. Develops and manages a dynamic portfolio of upwards of 150 high-capacity prospects of the College, with the goal of securing commitments that advance CMED’s strategic initiatives. Achieves an annual fundraising goal, raising upwards of $3,000,000 million. Partners with the CMED Dean, leadership, and faculty to craft compelling cases for support aligned with the college’s top priorities in medical education, research, and clinical care. Informs and supports the implementation of annual, major, and planned giving strategies specific to CMED’s fundraising goals and aligned with the programs, policies, and procedures of the University. Works collaboratively across the University Advancement division to align efforts, share insights, and support integrated donor strategies. Collaborates with CMED and Advancement colleagues to develop and implement cultivation and stewardship programs that deepen public awareness of CMED’s mission, achievements, and philanthropic opportunities. Participates in university, college, and divisional activities and committees. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervision Exercised None.
