The SBA Sales Director leads by origination of SBA loans. This position is directly involved and responsible for the origination of high-quality SBA 7a loans. This position assists in the underwriting, processing, packaging, documenting, funding, selling on the secondary market, servicing, workout, and liquidation of a complex SBA loan portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Primary job responsibility of this position is the origination of SBA 7a loans: collects and reviews all SBA documents required for underwriting, funding and closing.
- Assists in the gathering and review of a complete SBA file. Assists in the drafting of deeds, UCC’s, guarantees, business loan agreements and membership documentation.
- Arranges loan closing and funding, including loan document execution.
- Works closely with COI’s, borrowers, brokers, vendors, escrow, title to ensure timely and efficient loan closing.
- Receives and wherever possible handles a variety of customer inquiries and service requests.
- Aggressively manages the origination of an investment grade SBA loan portfolio.
- Opens small business deposit accounts and membership accounts.
•Note: Additional knowledge and duties described include general banking policies with emphasis on SBA policies, ability to manage multiple projects, and knowledge of a complex commercial loan portfolio including SBA 7A, real estate loans, working capital lines of credit, and other commercial deposits.
- Prequalification assessment and analysis of financial condition and risk of financing request within the framework of the credit union and current economic and industry trends.
- Coordinate processing of approved loans; ensure loans are processed according to agreement, customer needs and conformity to SBA and credit union lending policies.
- Obtain sufficient information and/or documentation from customers; solve problems related to processing and servicing of loans.
- Reinforce superior customer service through personal example and appropriate follow-through with customers and employees.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of financial industry trends, rates, vendors and competition.
- Apply sound decision-making within policy limits and use as learning tools for staff development.
- Lead special projects: gather data and prepare reports for senior management audits and other personnel.
- Answer telephone inquiries and direct callers to proper credit union personnel.
- Lead lending and deposit teams in improving credit and deposit quality, production and service levels; promote new commercial loan and small business deposit activity.
- Meet service level and production goals as set by management.
- Train and manage lending and deposit staff in commercial and small business banking.
- Perform additional duties and project work assigned by the commercial banking management team.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision; high degree of skill in real estate underwriting, secondary market, lending documentation, and related terminology.
- Strong attention to detail, teamwork, professional presentation, and flexible mindset.
- Strong computer skills (MS Excel and Word, T-soft, SBA 1, Etran, and LaserPro).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a time-sensitive, multifaceted environment.
Physical Requirements: Must be capable of working a standard eight-hour shift and be able to work before/after as needed to meet deadlines and special projects. Must be capable of sitting, walking, and standing as specified; ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Qualifications include: 7+ years’ experience in commercial and small business banking including loans and deposits; undergraduate or associate degree in finance, accounting, management, business or related field; strong SBA lending experience; advanced knowledge of commercial, construction, real estate and consumer loan processing; familiarity with lending regulations and credit union policies; strong math and analytical skills; exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
