We are looking for a hands-on strategic Sales Director who can not only think big but also roll up their sleeves and deliver measurable outcomes. Job Duties/Responsibilities Lead with Purpose: Drive and execute the companys sales strategy, focused on both leading and lagging indicators. Youll shape the path and ensure every player knows the goal and how to get there. Coach to Excellence: Set clear goals and performance expectations for sales managers and their teams. Hold them accountable through ongoing coaching, communication, and formal reviews. Develop Talent: Build a high-performing, growth-minded sales organization. Recruit, train, mentor, and develop future leaders who know how to wintogether. Channel Strategist: Manage and optimize across multiple distribution channels. You know the levers to pull and when to pivot to maximize impact. Performance-Obsessed: Oversee territory planning, budgeting, and forecasting. Monitor execution and adjust quickly when needed. Connector & Collaborator: Work cross-functionally with marketing, operations, inventory, HR, IT, and more to align sales strategies with broader company goals. Customer-First Mindset: Ensure our sales efforts are tightly aligned with customer satisfaction and loyalty. Monitor market signals and translate insights into action. Visible & Engaged: Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and on the road with your team. Be a trusted face to customers and a respected voice in the industry. Key Relationships The Sales Director will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is directly responsible for sales growth and will work closely and collaboratively with a number of colleagues. These key positions include: Chief Operating Officer With a direct reporting relationship to the Chief Operating Officer, the Sales Director is expected to provide regular, open and transparent communications regarding successes, challenges, changes and plans to develop the team. Regional Sales Managers Regional Sales Managers at Bailey Nurseries report into the Sales Director and are tasked with developing and executing on channel specific sales plans, leading sales representatives, remaining highly visible to key accounts and at industry events, and being out in the field building relationships and generating opportunities. Inside Sales Manager The inside Sales Manager at Bailey Nurseries reports directly to the Sales Director and is tasked with supporting the outside sales teams, processes orders, handle issues, upsell when appropriate. Mass Merchant Sales Manager The Mass Merchant Sales Manager at Bailey Nurseries reports directly to the Sales Director and is responsible for successfully growing and maintaining strategic customer accounts. They will maintain accounts while developing strong customer relationships to support and promote current and future business. Chief Marketing and Product Development Officer The Sales Director will work closely with the Chief Marketing and Product Development Officer to ensure marketing efforts are aligned with the strategic sales initiatives. Customers The Sales Directors will build relationships with key customers and for targeted opportunities in order to establish credibility and support the Sales Representatives servicing those accounts. Potential customer roles vary from Executive Level (C-Suite through Directors) to technical Engineers, as well as those individuals in the buyer/procurement role. Leadership and Shared Services The Sales Director will work collaboratively, and maintain key partnerships with the Finance, Human Resources, and IT leaders and teams. Measurements and Indicators In addition to the information outlined above, the following measures of success will be utilized as the primary performance indicators. Deliver Results : Drive total company sales performance and strategic growth across all sales channels and customer segments. Build a High-Performing Sales Organization: Strengthen the effectiveness, bench strength, and long-term sustainability of the sales organization through strong leadership and talent development. Lead, Manage, and Provide Accountability: Build a disciplined, high-accountability sales culture through strong management systems, consistent communication, and measurable expectations. Cross-Functional Team Player: Align and integrate sales strategies with company-wide functions to enhance customer experience, operational efficiency, and profitable growth. Qualifications/Skills Proven experience leading and scaling sales teams across territories, preferably in horticulture, manufacturing, agriculture, or related industries Exceptional ability to drive accountability and deliver results through others Strong strategic planning and financial forecasting skills Excellent communicator with a bias for clarity, action, and alignment Experience building high-performing cultures through coaching and feedback Analytical and problem-solving skills Integrity and honesty in all dealings. Demonstrated ability to exceptionally represent the Bailey Nurseries brand Experience with the use of a CRM system (preferably Sales Hub) with the ability to drive adoption and rollout You don't just manage people-you lead from the front Significant Travel Required: 50%+, including frequently visiting Bailey Nurseries facilities and customers ABOUT US Bailey Nurseries, Inc.
