Education and Experience
A. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
B. 5 years professional nursing experience
C. 2 years of experience in the specific clinical area
D. Previous leadership experience required.
E. Masters of Science in Nursing required.
Environmental/Working Conditions
Works in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs in the department as prescribed by the philosophy of the hospital. Exposure to blood borne pathogens is high risk.
Physical Capabilities
Work is of medium demand; walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on duty. Occasional lifting of patients with assistance is required. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Talking and hearing is essential in instructing and supervising of nursing personnel and in receiving docotr's orders and patient's condition reports. Near visual acuity required to work with charts and records and to observe patients.
Skills and Abilities
Must maintain the same competencies as required of the staff nurses in the area(s) of responsibility. Age specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patient care. Current knowledge of regulatory standards appropriate for area of responsibility, i.e. JCAHO, TDH, etc... Must demonstrate a working knowledge of leadership and management skills.
Job Description
Plans, supervises and evaluates patient care and nursing personnel of a specific nursing unit on a 24-hour basis. In compliance with the Philosophy of the Department of Nursing, will be responsible for operations of a specific nursing unit to ensure quality patient care, competent and responsible personnel management and cost efficient and effective utilization of unit resources.
Required Licensures/Certificates/Registrations
Current RN licensure from Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
