Residential(Dormitory) Principal/ Athletic Director Mt. Edgecumbe High School (MEHS) is a state-operated boarding school situated in picturesque Sitka, Alaska. MEHS has a rich history of serving the students of Alaska since 1948. The school is a popular destination primarily for students from schools that do not have high schools. The MEHS student population is the most diverse in the state. The high school population has a majority of Alaska native students from every region in the state. Still, it is open to any student in Alaska seeking expanded extracurricular activities and robust academic programs. Full-time: Work on campus for 230 days arranged around the school year. Afternoon and evening hours. Job Summary: The Residential Principal works with the Academic Principal and the Superintendent as an administrative team for the full operation of the Mt. Essential Duties The dormitory principal will also serve as the Athletic Director or oversee someone serving in tha t role. Create a positive residential environment that supports learning, encourages growth mindset, and leads to high academic growth aligned with the MEHS mission statement. Lead dormitory/maintenance staff in collaborative work to identify school goals. Monitor progress and build staff capacity to achieve growth. Ensure the dorms and facilities meet Alaska standards to ensure the health and safety of students. Complete and submit evaluations and staff development planning documents for all assigned staff members utilizing the state of Alaska process. Create and manage a 5-year work plan to ensure facilities, appliances, and equipment are maintained and/or replaced on a scheduled basis. Oversee the development of routines, structures, schedules, and procedures, so daily dormitory activities run smoothly and serve to meet the larger mission. Support students in meeting high standards of behavior and engagement. Complete regular and special reports as necessary to keep stakeholders informed or to meet regulatory requirements. Communicate regularly with parents and engage the broad MEHS community. Strategically plan for resource use, including personnel duties and assignments, to meet the needs of MEHS students and maintain a high-quality residential program. Recruit and make hiring recommendations for residential and maintenance staff as needed. Work with the leadership team to provide an overall positive full boarding school experience for students. Other duties include supporting and leading a successful residential program. MEHS operates as a division of the Department of Education of the State of Alaska. The The Residential Principal position/Assistant Director of Housing is an exempt position and subject to appointment. Employees appointed to exempt positions are exempt from the usual State of Alaska recruitment process and serve at the discretion of the appointing authority.
