Position Summary: The Regional Director of Medical Staff Services leads the Medical Staff Office for the East Region, which consists of Backus and Windham Hospitals. The Director works collaboratively with the East Region Vice President of Medical Affairs, the Medical Executive Committee and additional medical staff leaders (appointed, elected, volunteer, and paid, such as department chairs, committee chairs, etc.) to plan, organize, direct and coordinate the programs and activities of the MSO to ensure that the strategies of the are supported and attained goals and plans are realized, and there is adherence to the requirements of regulatory and accreditation bodies that are relevant to the organized medical staff. Key Accountabilities: * Collaborate with Medical Staff Leaders to standardize and streamline medical staff functions including meeting management and regulatory compliance for credentialing, peer review and disciplinary procedures * Collaborate with Medical Staff Leaders on how to conduct collegial interventions including intervention preparation, intervention coaching, and documentation, tracking and follow-up * Standardize Medical Staff functions across system hospitals including policies and procedures, clinical privileging criteria, focused professional practice evaluation and ongoing professional practice evaluation * Work with Medical Staff Leaders across the system to collaborate on departmental, service and committee issues * Responsible for Medical Affairs and Medical Staff cost centers. Develop budgets annually for salary, operations and capital equipment * Directs the amendment process of the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and policies and procedures. Evaluates bylaws and policies for compliance with state, federal and Joint Commission requirements, identifies areas of non-compliance and formulates amendments for compliance. Develop new policies and procedures as needed * Directs and evaluates the Medical Staff and Allied Health Professional Staff Credentialing Program including appointment, reappointment and clinical privileging for compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws and State and Federal standards in collaboration with the Hartford HealthCare central Credentials Verification Office * Directs and manages the Medical Staff Peer Review Program including data collection, review and follow through of peer review activities in accordance with policy * Directs, manages and coordinates the Medical Staff Corrective Action and Fair Hearing Proceedings with oversight of mandatory reporting to the state and National Practitioner Data Bank. Assures confidentiality of Medical Staff Activities related to peer review, credentialing, corrective actions and maintenance of files * Act as the Echo data steward monitoring reports, preparing and responding to audits, including all corrective action. Interact with Axuall on Echo data conversion and establish Echo standard work * Directs departmental database management and departmental contract management * Bachelor’s degree in business management or related field is required * Seven plus years of progressive leadership in hospital Medical Staff Services * Certification as a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Staff Services Management (CPMSM) is required * Self-directed and self-motivated skills with a strong attention to detail * High level of professional written and verbal communication skills. Mature attitude and judgment, responsible; professional demeanor, patient and flexible * Ability to manage multiple priorities and manage projects from initiation to completion within prescribed schedules and utilization of resources * Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments * Advanced knowledge in contract management preferred * Advanced knowledge of state, federal and Joint Commission medical staff standards and medical staff law * Advanced knowledge in computerized database management is required * Working knowledge of medical terminology We take great care of careers.
