The Implant Durability and Lab Operations leader is a member of the Structural Heart/Aortic Modeling, Simulation and Reliability leadership team. This leader is responsible for functional leadership of the Implant Durability and Lab Operations team in Santa Ana, CA. This role will require less than 20% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects. There are 3 critical areas required to ensure success in this role:
- Competency Growth and Strategy: Ability to understand implant durability needs and develop a strategic roadmap with key stakeholders mapping future capability improvements needed in methods for demonstrating mechanical implant durability and submission testing.
- SNA Lab Operations Leadership: Ability to lead both Design and Test Labs, a critical functional team responsible for prototyping and validation testing for the entire portfolio. This is a business-critical function to maintain predictable development cadence for program teams across the entire portfolio. Ownership of strategic vision to grow future capabilities of Lab Operations to be best in class and most efficient and reliable in executional standards. Partnership with other R&D Labs to leverage best practices and implement continuous improvement methods.
- Functional Leadership and Talent Development: Ability to build and maintain a high performing engineering and technician team. Mentor and coach extended team to achieve success in meeting business outcomes and individual growth.
The key job responsibilities of the Implant Durability and Lab Operations Director are as follows:
- Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the functional competency growth for implant durability and Lab Operations in SNA.
- Accountable for strategic roadmap for durability capability improvements tied to testing and validation strategy with key inputs from Therapy teams across the SH/A portfolio.
- Responsible for functional goals and work directly with therapy leaders and extended SMEs to ensure clear communication of objectives, deliverables, and timing of key milestones.
- Manages daily execution of Lab Operation including critical path tasks, budgets, resources, and risk.
- Effective use of project schedules and work breakdown with stakeholders to manage critical path activities.
- Understands applicable product standards (ISO 5840) and procedures in the development of next generation Test Methods with a platform approach with applicability across M&T and T&C.
- Delivers results with uncompromising quality, integrity, and ethics.
- Regular communication with T&C, M&T and R&D LT through regular updates and Pre-PDP framework.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements: To be considered for this role, please ensure the minimum requirements are evident on your resume.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or scientific field
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in engineering management, PDP roles with 7+ years of managerial experience OR an advanced degree with minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience.
Nice to Have (Desired & Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with Transcatheter Valve Replacement new product development
- Experience with Lab Operations with implant focus

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $194,400.00 - $291,600.00 This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan. The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, market conditions, and location.
