Overview
We’re looking for a Program Director to lead the strategic design, delivery, and continuous improvement of a portfolio of mission-driven educational and community programs. This person will oversee program planning and execution, manage facilitators and staff, and ensure the overall quality and consistency of offerings. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, detail-oriented leader who can balance strategic vision with operational follow-through. This role involves both big-picture thinking and hands-on coordination across multiple projects and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement program strategy in alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
- Refine program structure, content, and delivery methods to deepen participant engagement and impact.
- Collaborate with facilitators, partners, and designers to ensure programs are inclusive, values-aligned, and outcome-oriented.
- Contribute to strategies that showcase program results and strengthen partnerships.
- Integrate program planning into long-term sustainability efforts, including revenue strategies, alumni engagement, and team capacity-building.
Program Delivery & Facilitator Oversight
- Plan and manage a full calendar of programs, workshops, retreats, and events delivered in-person, virtually, and in hybrid formats.
- Use tools such as Asana, Slack, and Google Workspace to organize timelines, materials, and workflows.
- Supervise and support facilitators and coaches, including training and performance guidance to maintain quality standards.
- Partner with internal team members to design and manage the participant experience from onboarding through alumni engagement.
- Oversee data collection, tracking, and analysis of participant engagement and program outcomes.
- Strengthen evaluation systems to define and measure key performance indicators and organizational impact.
- Lead post-program debriefs and synthesize feedback from participants, facilitators, and team members.
- Supervise the Database & Impacts Coordinator in gathering and presenting evaluation data.
- Apply findings to inform program development, storytelling, and strategic planning.
- Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance for a small but growing team, including staff and contractors.
- Offer feedback, coaching, and professional development support to ensure team alignment and effectiveness.
- Support long-term team development, including hiring, onboarding, and internal growth, to strengthen program capacity and leadership in alignment with organizational strategy.
Partnership & Resource Stewardship
- Manage program budgets and ensure responsible allocation of resources.
- Collaborate with leadership to identify and pursue funding and partnership opportunities.
- Represent program needs in grant reporting, organizational planning, and cross-departmental discussions.
- Monitor peer organizations and sector trends to inform program direction and innovation.
Skills & Experience
Required
- 5+ years of experience in program leadership, facilitation, or community-based education.
- Demonstrated ability to manage both strategic direction and daily program operations.
- Experience supervising direct reports and cross-functional teams, including hiring and coaching.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Asana, Slack, Google Workspace, Zoom, and similar digital collaboration tools (experience with LMS platforms preferred).
- Commitment to values of equity, inclusion, and continuous learning, with experience applying these principles in program design and team leadership.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust across diverse stakeholders.
Preferred
- Experience in adult learning, facilitation, or community program design.
- Familiarity with nonprofit or philanthropic environments.
- Proven ability to use data and feedback to improve program delivery and participant experience.
- Skill in developing engaging and transformative learning environments.
Work Type and Compensation
- Contract Role: Full-time, remote, with some in-person presence required (Boston-based strongly preferred).
- Schedule: Primarily weekday business hours (Eastern Time), with flexibility for live programming.
- Compensation: $60–$80/hour, depending on experience; paid bi-weekly or monthly.
