Position Overview Provide high-quality advancement and enrichment experiences for Justice National Scout Camp guests in a summer camp setting by facilitating and contributing to fun, safe, and engaging programs. Key Responsibilities Directly lead, coach, and counsel the Scout Camp program area staff, ensuring guests have safe and fun experiences Train Scout Camp staff in policies and procedures of the Summit, along with leadership and instructional skills Communicate with guests and staff to ensure quality experiences, implementing adjustments based on feedback Provide informal/formal feedback (mid/end season evaluations) to department staff Write end-of-season report, to include inventories and recommendations for improvements Provide leadership and participate in set-up, take down, camp-wide programs, evening programs, and activities Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook Qualifications Minimum age: 21+ Required: Previous Scouting and/or outdoor recreation experience Preferred: Previous management and leadership experience / previous Summit experience Valid driver license and ability to obtain Summit Driving Permit Obtain the National Camping School Camp Resident Camp Director or Program Director card (training provided) Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening) Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication Physical & Practical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and hike, up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp; Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform; Work Hours: 55+ hours Desired Traits High-level emotional intelligence (such as self/social awareness and team dynamics) Positive and cheerful attitude with a strong customer-service focus Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with ability to learn/develop hard and soft skills Ability to connect with individuals from diverse age groups, maturity, and backgrounds About the Summit Bechtel Reserve and the Justice National Scout Camp The Summit Bechtel Reserve (SBR) is a 10,600-acre outdoor adventure and education facility located near New River Gorge National Park in southern West Virginia. As one of Scouting America's National High Adventure Bases, the Summit provides transformative experiences for Scouts and other youth. At Justice National Scout Camp, Scouts (ages 10-17) participate in more than 80 merit badge programs in areas such as aquatics, climbing, S.T.E.M., arts and media, citizenship, and outdoor skills. They also enjoy high-adventure activities like mountain biking, rafting, and skateboarding, as well as classic camp traditions like flag ceremonies and campfires.
