SDState is seeking a strategic and knowledgeable leader to serve as the Program Director of Research Integrity and Compliance. This key position plays a vital role in supporting a culture of ethical and compliant research across the university. As the university’s Research Integrity Officer, the Program Director ensures that faculty and staff research activities meet federal and state regulations while also fostering accountability, transparency, and responsible conduct of research. This position is located in , South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
The plays a central role in advancing faculty expertise to solve real-world challenges and promote economic development. SDSate is recognized for its leadership in areas such as bioprocessing, precision agriculture, and remote sensing, and is home to several prominent research centers and partnerships, including the POET Bioproducts Center and three state research centers focused on drug delivery, biologics, and translational biosystems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee and implement research compliance programs related to human subjects (IRB), animal care and use (IACUC), and responsible conduct of research (RCR).
Lead investigations of research misconduct and other non-compliance issues.
Provide training and guidance to faculty, staff, and students on research ethics and compliance requirements.
Collaborate with university offices to address legal, regulatory, and policy matters related to research integrity.
Advise university leadership on compliance risks, corrective actions, and best practices.
Monitor and implement changes in federal and state research regulations.
Coordinate required reporting to regulatory agencies and maintain institutional compliance records. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field of study completed by date of application or a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience developing and leading compliance in research involving human subjects or animal subjects;
At least three years of experience developing and leading compliance in one or more of this position’s areas of responsibility.
Interpersonal, adaptability, collaborative, and leadership skills in a complex organizational structure;
A valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire; and
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Five or more years of experience leading program development and implementation in several or all areas of responsibility;
Demonstrated leadership of high performing teams;
Demonstrated leadership in building partnerships across organizational sectors, leadership levels, and stakeholder groups; and
Experience conducting self-assessments of compliance controls.
