34 Days Old

Overview The Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE) within the Directorate of Geosciences (GEO) announces a nationwide search for a rotator position in the Physical Oceanography Program. We will consider filling the position at either the Associate Program Director or the Program Director level and will determine your qualifications from the submitted application. Formal consideration of interested applications will begin April 4, 2016 and will continue until a selection is made. Responsibilities Program Directors solicit, receive and review research and education proposals, make funding recommendations, administer awards, and interact with research communities, industry, and other Federal agencies to foster interagency collaborations. They interact with NSF-wide activities and initiatives to accomplish NSF’s strategic goals, including transforming the frontiers of science and engineering, stimulating innovation to address societal needs through research and education, and excelling as a federal science agency. The position requires high standards of intellectual rigor, broad interests, fairness, good judgment, and personal integrity. In addition, Program Directors engage with academic communities and, when appropriate, crosscutting and interactive teams to advance NSF-supported research and education in physical oceanography and related fields. Qualifications This position requires broad expertise and demonstrated experience in physical oceanography. Knowledge of estuarine and/or coastal dynamics is desired. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in physical oceanography or a related discipline (e.g., environmental fluid dynamics), and at least six or more years of relevant research, research administration and/or managerial experience after the Ph.D. The role requires effective oral and written communication skills; familiarity with NSF programs and activities is highly desirable. The incumbent should be capable of working both as an individual contributor and as a member of crosscutting teams, and should be able to collaborate across government agencies to promote NSF activities and leverage program funds through interagency collaborations.
