Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a complete review of the EDRP application. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories. Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residents enrolled in accredited residency programs and meeting other requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed but may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: At least 2 years of work experience as a geriatrician after fellowship, management/supervisory experience, managing older patients with complex conditions, and expertise in geriatric medicine including dementia care, mental health, rehabilitation, transitions of care, and healthcare systems navigation. Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical, including light to moderate lifting, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, visual and auditory requirements, emotional and mental stability, and ability to work independently or with others. Duties The HBPC Medical Director leads a diverse interdisciplinary team providing care to veterans in their homes. Collaborates with the Program Manager and provides medical leadership at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System. Reports to the Chief of Geriatrics and Extended Care Service. Manages program staff physicians and mid-level providers, overseeing clinical supervision, quality improvement, and system management. Serves as backup for the HBPC program.
