Title: Technical Director, Theatre
Unit : Part-Time Non-Unit Support Staff
Department: Theater, Liberal Arts Division
Reports to: Department Chair of Theater
Date: August 7, 2025
General Summary: The Theatre Technical Director will oversee all technical aspects of MCC's productions with a primary focus on building, painting, installing, and striking scenic elements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Advise Director of Production on the technical specifications, construction costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual projects and supervise the implementation of approved technical designs
Supervise and assist with scenic construction to insure support of the artistic vision within the limitations of schedule, labor, and budget
Attend meetings and rehearsals as needed, to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting successful productions
Assist with the preparation and control of annual scenic budgets; maintain inventory and order specialized scenic supplies
Administrative tasks include scenic budget creation, expense tracking and allocation
Assist in recruiting, onboarding, training, and assignment of technical staff
Provide logistical support for facility rentals and visiting productions regarding safety, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operations
Monitor the condition of equipment and technical assets of the theatre including scene shop, storage, stage, and rigging equipment; arrange for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; perform preventive maintenance on equipment
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
Knowledge of theatrical rigging and double purchase fly system
Knowledge of ACAD or Vectorworks
Excellent time management, organization, and administrative skills
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $35 per hour in accordance with Middlesex Community College Part-Time Wage Schedule
Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed
Hours: 18.5 per week, schedule to be determined upon hire
Expected Start Date: September 2025
