Job Summary and Qualifications

The Director of Medical/Surgical Nursing provides overall administrative and clinical leadership to all designated units within the Med/Surg Service Line and Wound Care. Accountable and responsible for all departmental activities to ensure delivery of quality patient care in a safe and therapeutic environment. The Director will ensure effective administrative management of clinical functions related to personnel and policy in order to meet the mission of patient care, education and research within a fiscally responsible organization.

What you will do in this role:

• Develop a facility framework and strategy to prioritize, delegate, and execute initiatives that align with the division and enterprise strategy for nursing operations​.
• ​​Provide feedback to CNO (Chief Nursing Officer) on cross-functional initiative progress.
• Provide feedback to CNO on nursing initiatives, standards of care, and clinical processes based on key performance metrics.
• ​​Manage execution of nursing initiatives and strategies across the facility​.
• ​​Assist in the development of clinical protocols that use evidence based best practices to provide consistency and drive performance outcomes​.
• ​​Evaluate projects or initiative strategic fit with the organization’s objectives to guide the allocation of human, financial, and technological resources​.
• ​​Build strategic alliances and partnerships within the organization to collaboratively execute business strategies​.
• ​​Interface with cross-functional facility leadership to oversee initiatives impacting nursing aligned with HCA division strategies and facility goals​.
• ​​Engage regularly with facility leadership and staff to identify unique operational needs and assist with development of action plans​.
• Plan and manage projects, including assigned personnel, multiple competing projects, or resource demands to meet project deadlines on time and within budget.
• Use intermediate/advanced features of spreadsheet software and analyze data including formatting summary tables, creating graphs and charts, and making calculations.
• Use database software to enter, retrieve, sort, and filter information as necessary for reporting or report generation.
• ​​Collaborate with analytics experts to track impact of initiatives across key nursing metrics (e.g., efficiency, quality, turnover, etc.)​.
• ​​Monitor and evaluate reports consistently, highlighting areas of change / focus and suggesting action plans​.
• Support nursing operations with knowledge of tools, systems, and evidence-based practices.
• Utilize expert knowledge of clinical systems that support operational efficiencies as it relates to clinical nursing initiatives.
• ​​Interpret business data for the purpose of identifying patterns, trends, and variances in facility operations​.
• Understand complexities and intricate relationships among issues or problems.
• Recognize gaps in existing information that is important for fully understanding an issue or problem.
• ​​Work collaboratively with facility, division and corporate leadership to improve key nursing-driven metrics.

What qualifications you will need:

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required; Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Tennessee or compact state required.
• 3-5 years of related clinical management/supervisory/leadership experience required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
