FLSA Type: ExemptDepartment: AdministrationReports to: President/CEOWork Modality: Remote and/or On-sitePay Range: Grade 22Pay Grade: $175/hr.Job SummaryThe Medical Director shall work to promote the mission of Central California Blood Center (CCBC) while being responsible for overseeing the medical activities of the organization. This scope of duties will be accomplished within 20-25 hours per week remotely and/or in person at CCBC's headquarters in Fresno, CA.The Medical Director oversees all processes and SOPs of CCBC relating to donor selection, eligibility, collection, processing, testing and distribution of blood products, donor safety and other roles guided or mandated by local, state, federal, and international regulatory agencies.Essential ResponsibilitiesResponsible for policy and decisions regarding donor suitability.Available as a consultant to patients, physicians, or staff with questions regarding blood donation activities and/or lab-related issues.Responsible for donor counseling issues related to donation and/or testing issues, and will notify blood donors of positive infectious disease(s) markers according to SOP and regulatory requirements.Participate in oversight of blood donor confirmatory testing, donor notification, deferral, and re-entry processes. Serves as the licensed "Laboratory Director" for all CLIA-related departments.Provides all CCBC clinical departments with guidance, ongoing monitoring and mentoring regarding medical and technical issues.Available for Medical consultation with hospital blood staff as needed. Assists the President/ CEO in representing CCBC in the medical communities of the region CCBC serves by being present in various organizational, state, and/or industry meetings.Collaborates with President/CEO and/or other CCBC leaders for educational opportunities for Medical Advisory meetings.Actively engaged in the communication and education of blood inventory management and hospital blood utilization with hospitals served by CCBC. Organizes and holds quarterly Medical Advisory meetings with hospital leaders in CCBC territory, in-person and/or virtually.Must be physically present at CCBC facility at a minimum of one full workday each month.Recommends and evaluates corrective actions to address discoveries made during internal audits and/or inspections. Maintains a collaborative relationship between all leadership roles in CCBC. Participates in annual review of SOPs.May serve as a Principal Investigator for CCBC-approved research programs.Note: The duties and responsibilities described above are not a comprehensive list and additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time; or the scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands. RequirementsQualifications and SkillsMust be a Doctor of Medicine Degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree, with a license in good standing.Must be licensed in the State of California with sub-specialty training in Hematology (IM) or Transfusion Medicine (Pathology).Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products and virtual meeting technology platforms.Strong people skillsSuperior leadership skillsSuperb judgment, problem-solving and cognitive skillsEducation/Licenses/ExperienceMust be a Doctor of Medicine Degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree, with a license in good standing.Must be licensed in the State of California with sub-specialty training in Hematology (IM) or Transfusion Medicine (Pathology).Physical RequirementsConstant sittingConstant computer use (keyboard, mouse)Infrequent standingInfrequent walkingWorking ConditionsTravel requires one full business day per month at CCBC's headquarters in Fresno, CA.Travel may be during the normal business hours, although some overnight travel may be needed.
