This role will have collaborative accountability for the effective implementation of the operating model, including quality and clinical care models; professional demeanor and presentations; professional proposals and business plans for the associated specialties.
Leadership
Leads Physician/Advanced Practice Provider collaborations and defines and establishes care models that best meet our patient's needs and our system fundamentals
Where applicable, fulfill Department Chair duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws and in the Department/Division Rules and Regulations
Ensures that evidence-based clinical care standards for Surgical Services are established and effectively implemented in the respective Intermountain facility
Responsible for execution of policies and procedures related to operating room environments
Assists in educating compliance with appropriate standards required by all governmental and regulatory agencies
Champions quality initiatives and policies and reports infractions, collaborating to eliminate future infractions
Address opportunities and maintain successes in patient and provider experience
Conduct regular Operating Room Council meetings, in conjunction with dyad/triad partners, to address safety, efficiencies, outcomes, policies, scheduling, utilization, system initiatives, and facility-specific needs
Regular attendance of meetings, which include but are not limited to: Facility Operating Room Council, Surgical Services Council, facility-specific councils/committees
Assist in quality reporting
Effectively addresses performance concerns for providers, including peer review for cases
Maintain standards of safety
Address inappropriate or unprofessional behavior as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws and in the Rules and Regulations
Promote caregiver engagement
Assist in the development and maintenance of operational, financial, and fundamentals of extraordinary care metrics
Collaborate with facility and system colleagues for strategic and best practice development and implementation
Development and implementation of committees when necessary to address the needs of surgery including but not limited to utilization, quality, new products, and strategy
Partner with inpatient hospital operations to maximize environment of care
Maintain environment of collegiality with staff, consultants, and inpatient caregivers
Establish, exemplify, and communicate professional standards for physicians within surgery
Ensures physician alignment with Surgical Services at the facility
Stewardship
Work collaboratively with departmental director(s) to optimize management of cost controls and efficiencies.
Address and inform capital needs
Partnership with SCO and Intermountain surgical Value Analysis Teams for value and cost savings initiatives
Supports and drives results for the fundamentals of care for Intermountain with concern for reducing the cost of care (cost per case, per member per month costs) with the focus on improving the affordability of healthcare
Physician Partnership and Support:
Meet regularly with leadership to develop strong relationships with providers and to discuss information that is essential to the successful performance of the unit(s)/department.
Supports and drives results for key metrics identified through Specialty Based Care and Surgical Services
Participate in the care site Medical Director Council.
