Overview
Vertex is seeking to hire an Associate Director of Access Strategy Analytics & Insights to join the US Market Access (USMA) team within the Commercial organization. The role has primary responsibility for the oversight and hands-on management of the Access Strategy Analytics & Insights function across all payer and channel segments in the United States. This position focuses on developing innovative analytical approaches to assure patient access to Vertex’s rare disease therapies and works closely with senior Market Access leadership.
The ideal candidate is passionate about patients, results-driven, strategically adept, and willing to be involved in hands-on execution. This role leads qualitative and quantitative insights in support of access barriers, payer behavior, and pull-through strategy across launch and in-line brands. The Associate Director sits within the US Market Access, Data and Analytics Center of Excellence and collaborates with the broader Market Access Strategy, Government, Pricing, and Trade teams.
Responsibilities
Lead the delivery of therapeutic area specific analytical insights in response to market access landscape, issues and trends.
Collaborate with the Global Commercial Insights and Analytics Organization to integrate qualitative and quantitative market research into market access analytics and strategy development.
Partner with Guidance & Patient Services to incorporate compliance, persistence, and adherence insights into access analytics and patient journey understanding.
Translate business objectives into analytic requirements to support Market Access Strategy, delivering insights into payer policy trends, formulary positioning, and value messaging across commercial and government payers.
Conduct value and access outcomes analyses to evaluate policy impact, coverage variation, and access risks for pipeline, launch, and in-line brands.
Support Gross-to-Net (GTN) planning by supplying payer mix insights, utilization controls, and contract data to improve forecast inputs and sensitivity modeling.
Generate actionable insights using advanced data tools (SQL, Power BI, Excel, and other BI platforms) with data validation and business relevance.
Build executive-ready dashboards and insight products communicating opportunities and barriers to senior and cross-functional stakeholders.
Demonstrate strong data storytelling skills to synthesize technical data into clear business recommendations for decision-making and access execution.
Work with payer account and Payer Field Engagement teams to translate insights into pull-through strategies and align across payer engagements.
Leverage knowledge of Veeva systems to connect access insights to field execution and account planning processes.
Analyze Trade & Distribution data (e.g., 852/867 feeds) to support visibility into product availability and downstream market access implications.
Understand the impact of utilization management, tiering, formulary or medical policy on demand and use of alternative therapies and co-pay support.
Identify value drivers through quantitative methods to remove barriers to access and improve brand value proposition.
Perform claims analysis to demonstrate market dynamics and build models of risks, opportunities, and sensitivities.
Conduct proactive research of various data sources and engage stakeholders to define channel, segment and payer mix.
Inform and support pre- and post-contract evaluations with contract operations and administration teams, including volume and geographic considerations and utilization trends.
Act as a connector between Access Strategy and internal data partners, aligning business questions with data architecture and insight delivery roadmaps.
Advocate for integrating market access insights across Vertex teams (Market Access Strategy, Government, Pricing, Trade Operations, Distribution) and collaborate with Data Technology & Engineering, DSS, and HEOR teams.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Finance) required.
7-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry with 6 years in insights, analytics and reporting; 10 years of US pharmaceutical industry experience with increasing responsibilities.
5 years of experience in developing US Market Access, preferably in Access Strategy, Pricing, Reimbursements, and Value Proposition in an analytical role.
Excellent knowledge of Market Access data sets (e.g., MMIT, IQVIA, Pricing/GTN Model-N, Trade & Distribution including IntegriChain 852/867, Dispenses and Claims, Real-World Data sources).
Exceptional analytics and technical data query skills; experience collaborating with data scientists and engineers.
Strong to expert proficiency in Power BI and SQL.
Working knowledge of data lake platforms (e.g., Snowflake) is a plus.
Stakeholder management: ability to communicate confidently to senior leaders and manage complexity in a matrixed environment.
Strong data storytelling with PowerPoint, Excel, and Power BI; ability to distill complex information into concise visuals and messages.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and work effectively in a flexible, ambiguous environment.
Ability to influence decision-makers and support financial forecasting, analytics, and commercial launch planning.
Education: Master’s Degree in a quantitative field preferred but not required.
