Job Responsibilities Day-to-day oversight of all phases of litigation and third-party legal counsel defending the Association in complex, public litigation. This requires attention to consistency of legal positions across the litigation, coordination of counsel, review of filings representing the Association, and collaboration with communications and the general counsel. Consultation at NCAA trials, key hearings, and other important meetings with outside and opposing counsel. Financial management of litigation and legal affairs, including oversight of litigation budgets and expenses, selection and management of outside counsel, alignment of strategy for litigation with business goals, development of standard methodologies for legal operations, complex recoveries, dispute resolution and litigation avoidance for the association. Deliver strategic oversight of eDiscovery and document management initiatives, including development of innovative processes for identifying, preserving and producing data, with responsibility for vendor selection and management. Monitor industry trends, participate in litigation and defense counsel professional organizations, and develop key metrics that help the company to understand and mitigate against emerging areas of risk. Provide legal advice to national association staff and governance committees in areas of subject matter expertise. Management and implementation of OLA policies, including compliance by counsel and vendors retained by the Association. Manage the litigation and legal operations vertical of the office of legal affairs, including day-to-day oversight of three direct reports. Other duties as required. Job Requirements J.D. and active bar license required. Must be in good standing with Indiana bar requirements. At least eight years of legal practice required. At least eight years of management focus required. Experience as a trial lawyer familiar with the operation of courts and conduct of outside counsel. Ability to demonstrate effective organizational skills Demonstrated collaboration and leadership experience with highly motivated peers and staff. Estimated Travel Required
