Overview

Managing Director, Litigation Valuation Practice Leader at BDO USA. The Valuation & Capital Market Analysis (VCMA) practice leads expert opinions on the value of businesses, securities, and other assets in legal disputes. The role includes managing valuation assignments, supervising staff, and leading business development to grow the VCMA practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert opinions on the value of businesses, securities, and other assets in legal disputes (e.g., shareholder disputes, mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcy, probate).
  • Provide expert witness testimony in court and other legal proceedings.
  • Conduct complex valuations and financial analyses; prepare expert reports and supporting documentation.
  • Execute personal business development plans with practice leadership; build and maintain client and counsel relationships; participate in activities to grow the practice.
  • Coordinate with Alliance Firms and international firms on opportunities as they arise.
  • Stay current on relevant regulations, legal cases, and best practices to ensure high-quality engagement deliverables.
  • Other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day workload of VCMA staff on engagements and review work product.
  • Train VCMA staff on valuation databases and models.
  • Evaluate performance and assist in professional development goals; deliver periodic feedback and evaluations.
  • Act as Career Advisor to VCMA staff, as appropriate.

Education, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics (required).
  • Master’s in Business Administration (preferred).

Experience

  • Fifteen (15) or more years in business valuation, with ten (10) or more years in litigation support (required).
  • Direct testifying experience – hearings, depositions, and trials (required).

Licenses/Certifications

  • CPA, CFA, ASA, or other valuation industry credential (required).

Software

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) (required).
  • Experience with Capital IQ and Bloomberg (preferred).

  • N/A

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical and research abilities.
  • Solid organizational skills with attention to deadlines and detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently or in a team, and manage a team of valuation professionals.
  • Executive presence; ability to serve as primary contact on engagements and interact with professionals at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel within the US and internationally (required).

Compensation

Individual salaries offered are determined after consideration of qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. Geographic ranges: California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, NYC/Long Island/Westchester, Vermont, Washington, and Washington DC – typically $275,000 to $350,000.
