What You’ll Do

All prospect and donor management roles on Field Fundraising teams are responsible for cultivating, stewarding, and managing a portfolio of donors in local communities who share Teach For America’s commitment to equitable and excellent education. You will be part of a team-based effort to develop and execute a long-term vision and strategy to achieve development goals for public and private funding. You will partner with the regional Bay Area Executive Director, advisory board, and other front-line fundraisers and development support staff to maximize giving and play a key role in new donor strategy and acquisition over the next 3-5 years. Reporting to the Bay Area SMD, Development you will set the vision and strategies to raise $3-4 million or more from a portfolio of donors who typically give $100,000+ annually. You will work directly with the Executive Director to cultivate and steward your portfolio, and in some cases may be the primary solicitor.

You should be a specialist in fundraising and development who can independently develop and execute strategy to acquire, cultivate, retain, and diversify your donor portfolio (including public and private donors) in partnership with the local Executive Director and the SMD, Development.

Your Experience

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):

  • Relationship Building and Management
    • Highly skilled relationship builder, particularly with external prospects and donors
    • Build and execute comprehensive relationship management plans across a portfolio of donors
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fundraising and Development
    • Specialize in best practices of development and fundraising
    • Track record of reaching revenue goals in complex philanthropic landscapes
    • Experience stewarding a diverse portfolio of donors/funders from various funding streams
    • Leverage local development trends to set strategy and adjust as necessary
  • Portfolio Management
    • Set vision and direction for a specific portfolio of local donors and independently execute to maximize revenue
    • Monitor progress to ensure donor stewardship

Prior Experience

  • Required: At least 7+ years of related experience in development and fundraising
  • Required: Track record of meeting and exceeding ambitious goals as a donor portfolio manager
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Preferred: Teach For America development experience
  • Preferred: Fundraising certification (CRFE/CRFM or equivalent) and/or related Master’s Degree (e.g., MBA, M, Non-Profit Management)

Work Demands

  • Occasional weekend or evening work hours required
  • Must be able to travel to engage with local donors

This role will be part of the Field Fundraising arm of the Revenue and Development team, aiming to raise significant annual contributions from local donors across multiple regions.

Your Compensation

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on location and aligns to a defined tier. Starting pay depends on factors including education, training, experience, location, business needs, and market demands. New hires are typically placed within the range based on qualifications, internal equity, and budgeted amount. The following range is provided as a guide and may be updated.

Tier C: $112,400 - $144,800
