Position Overview Under the supervision of the Branch Executive Director, the Program Director will plan, organize, and implement outdoor activities and programs, including day camp, at the Lower Shore Family YMCA in Pocomoke, MD. The ideal candidate should have a passion for outdoor activities, teaching, and adventure programming, and be capable of working with diverse age groups and abilities. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety, well-being, and personal growth of staff, campers, and participants, with a focus on outdoor education, camp, and youth programs. Key Responsibilities Incorporate and model YMCA principles of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Develop outdoor programming activities beyond summer camp. Oversee implementation of outdoor programs, including curriculum, daily activities, scheduling, transportation, and special events. Manage program operations: licensing compliance, daily activities, communication, behavior management, staff development, and transportation coordination. Recruit, hire, supervise, and train staff in collaboration with the Executive Director. Foster a team environment with open communication among members, children, parents, and staff. Ensure participant safety and create an environment of respect and inclusivity. Implement, track, and report on grant-funded programs as required. Report concerns about participant behavior or child abuse immediately, documenting incidents appropriately. Build relationships with participants and staff. Monitor staff discipline and ensure fair treatment. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required. 2-4 years of leadership experience in teaching, summer camp, or youth programming. Experience in outdoor programming, aquatics, or camping preferred. Must be at least 21 years old, with a good driving record (no more than 2 points), and willing to obtain a CDL. Certifications: Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, AED, Child Abuse Prevention within 30 days of hire. Experience working with diverse populations preferred. Physical Demands Ability to lead and participate in outdoor and indoor activities, handle high-stress situations, and work effectively under pressure.
