Position Summary: Perform routine tasksin a research environment. Assist in performing assigned laboratory tasks without constant supervision. Assist staff in laboratory work. Must be able to organize work, collect and analyze data, make calculations, prepare reports, keep records, and make independent decisions. Ability to complete assigned special projects with minimal supervision. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Perform enzymatic assays using both radioactive and non-radioactive isotopically labeled subtrates Culture and transfection of mammalian cell lines Perform Western Blotting and PCR analysis Plasmid preparation Buffer preparation Document results in a laboratory notebook Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Background in Biology Basic understanding of biochemical principles Required Qualifications: Experience in a laboratory setting Ability to work cooperatively in a group environment Good communication skills Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a hourly employee at VCU Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate will have experience in a biochemistry laboratory.
